"Yes."

"Did anyone force you to do this?"

"No."

"You signed the intake paperwork yourself?"

"Yes."

"The agency offered you counseling and support during the process. Is that correct?"

"Yes."

"Did you accept that counseling?"

A pause. "No."

"Why not?"

Kira's jaw tightened. "I just wanted it to be over."

David nodded and turned a page. "The second relinquishment. You left the baby on the doorstep of Ms. Thea Calloway's residence. At approximately 3:00 a.m, during a rainstorm."

"No."

"Did you go to a hospital?"

"No."

"Did you contact any emergency services?"

"No."

"Did you knock on the door and speak to the woman inside?"

Kira's hands tightened in her lap. "I left the baby and walked away."

"I'll rephrase." David didn't miss a beat. "Ms. Solis, how did you know the address?"

Kira hesitated. Her eyes moved to Perez. Back to David. "I researched the adoptive parents from the agency file."

"So this was not random. You specifically chose this doorstep. You had time to plan."

"I knew the woman would take care of her."

"You knew a woman you'd never met would take care of your baby. Based on a file you read at an adoption agency." David let that sit. "And yet, knowing the address, having the time to plan, you chose to leave the baby in the rain at night rather than call for help."

Kira didn't answer.

"The note, Ms. Solis. 'She's yours now. I'm sorry.'" David read the words from a photocopy and held it up. "You wrote this?"
