“Are you sure we’ll be able to behave once we’re on that bus seven days a week?”

Sam grinned, the tilt of his lips boyish. “No. But we’ll try.”

“I should get to bed then because I’ve had a few drinks tonight. My control is flimsy right now, and I can’t promise to be on my best behavior.”

Never letting go of my hand, he turned the fire off and led me inside our home for the next six months.

His lips descended on the side of my face.

He kissed my cheek, and my knees buckled as his hand found my waist and held me in place. “Again, thank you for today. The song, the girls. It was amazing. I’m still at a loss for words, which says a lot. Now I’ll have to watch them closely, or Riley will try to sign them up.”

“They were badass up there, right? It looked like they’d been doing this multiple times in the past. A natural talent they inherited from you.”

“Pride isn’t strong enough to describe how I felt. For now, I’ll stick to thank you. Thank you, Madison Prescott, for coaching my kids into singing one of the songs that means the most to me. And for making us ridiculously happy.” His lips brushed mine in a featherlight kiss. “Night, Maddie.”

I sucked in a breath imprinted with the scent of him. “Night, Sam.”

Lying in bed, unable to catch some sleep, my mind raced as I thought about my day, my conversations with Devon, Emily, and Sam. Everything he said. All he confessed. My pulse went ballistic as I replayed his words. All perfect to me.

The expression in his eyes when the girls took the stage. It would forever live with me. The exhilaration. The pride. Because I felt important to him. Cherished. Unique.

On my tiptoes, I escaped the confinement of my room and approached his bedroom. He had a queen-sized bed and dressers. And a private bathroom, while the girls and I shared ours. Not that it mattered, though. A shower was just that, a shower. And fancy wasn’t in my vocabulary. My living quarters, which were exclusively mine, were more than enough.

I inhaled a cleansing breath and knocked on his door.

“Come on in.” His voice resonated from the other side of the panel. I walked into the dark room, careful not to bump into anything. “Hey you,” Sam greeted me when I reached his bed after he turned the bedside lamp on. “Can’t sleep?”

“Nope. You?”

“Same.” He flipped the covers and invited me in. I hesitated for a moment, but he reached forward and tugged at my hand. I surrendered. “I was about to come to get ya.”

“You were?” I turned to my side, and his arms pulled me closer to his chest.

“After everything we shared tonight, it felt wrong to put that much distance between us. And I wanted to make sure I didn’t scare you with my honesty.”

“Why?”

“Because I talked of babies. And the future. And I don’t know. I feel it’s best to know from the get-go we expect the same things from a relationship, but sometimes it can come out as a bit intense. And I’ll never put pressure on you, Maddie. I just wanted to clear the air. Make it obvious in case it wasn’t before.”

“Can I sleep here? For a few minutes? With you?”

My boldness impressed me, and my heart flipped in my chest as I waited for his answer.

Sam nuzzled my neck from behind, his unconcealed manhood pressing between my ass cheeks. “If it were just me, you’d sleep here forever. If it were just the two of us, there would be no questions asked, no self-denial, no walls to erect around us. I wouldn’t waste another second being without you. Not being buried inside you. Kissing you and loving you.”

A batch of happy tears lodged in my eyes.

“What would you do to me if it were just us?”

His breathing quickened. And my body throbbed at the first words that passed the rim of his lips. “First, I would get rid of all these clothes between us. Then, I would take my sweet time, exploring each inch of your body. With my hands. With my teeth. With my tongue. With my cock. Once I knew it so well I could draw it from just memory, I would taste you. All of you. Until you climaxed on my tongue and you saw nothing else but faraway galaxies when you closed your eyes. Until my name became the sole word in your vocabulary. Then I would kiss you. So you could taste yourself on my lips and see why you’re driving me so crazy. Finally, I would push myself deep inside you. Until our bodies and souls bonded together and there was no telling us apart. I’d play your body the same way I played my guitar, with dedication and confidence and in perfect harmony. And we’d come together in a bliss neither of us could escape from, our souls forever connected. Then I would start all over again because I would never be satiated.”

I hadn’t even realized Sam’s hand had plunged between my thighs, too entranced by his words while he recited how he’d pleasure my body if given the chance.

He shoved my panties to the side, tracing the seam of my arousal with a rough finger.

I swallowed, new sensations surging through me. “I thought we said we’d wait?” I whispered, my body responding to his touch like he knew it inside out already.

I rolled my hips over his hand.
