“Ouch, that hurts. Anyway, I think it’s great. Might explain why we’re so good at bantering. I found my word-soulmate.” I winked, and April shook her head, her smile not faltering.

“Well. Anyway, even if you’d try to look for me on the web, you wouldn’t find anything. I’m using a pen name, and my picture isn’t out there. I like my privacy too much.”

My interest grew even more.

“What is it? Your pen name.”

“If I tell you, I’ll have to kill you afterward because only a few people know. Not sure it’s worth the risk. I’ll keep it a secret so your life is safe.” April winked, and I almost melted in my seat when I realized she wouldn’t tell me. For real. Should I be impressed or run for my life? April Simmons was dangerous around me. She was both a drug and a mystery, wrapped in one bubbly and sexy woman. Had I met my match? I fixed her with a stare, speechless. And spellbound.

April fought a yawn.

“I’m going to bed. I have no idea what time it is, but I’m exhausted. Today was an emotional ride.”

“About that, I’m sorry, April. I never meant for you to find out this way. I was afraid you’d run away if you knew who I was.”

“Don’t sweat it. It’s fine. Gimme some time to get used to it, though.”

I raked my fingers through my hair, and my eyes locked on hers. We eyed each other for a few beats. April hugged herself with her arms, and I cleared my throat. “I’ll let you go to bed. Good night, Fairy.” There was so much more I wanted to tell her, but I couldn’t find the words. “I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Yeah. Night, HN.” April waved at me and walked away, leaving me all alone with my thoughts. And a massive hard-on.

I ran both hands over my face and huffed.

Once I was sure April wouldn’t come back downstairs, I turned off all the lights and made my way to my bedroom. I undressed, and pumping myself with fast strokes, I entered the shower, needing to release all the tension in my groin. Leaning against the glass wall, my head resting on my bent arm and the water raining down on me, I worked myself. Images of April filled my mind. Her smile. Her ass. Her tits. My balls tightened. My breaths quickened. Dots danced before my eyes. A loud groan—one that emerged from the depths of my soul—left my mouth. I exhaled as I emptied myself. Butt-naked, I collapsed, face first, on the mattress and fell asleep in no time.

The next day, April and I spent the morning working. She was writing in the den while I was locked in my music studio, trying to come up with a melody for a song I wrote. After lunch, we drove to Dahlia’s.

“Carter!” Jack shouted, running into my arms as we climbed out of my SUV. He lowered his voice. “Carter, is the fairy your friend?” I let out a loud chuckle as he looked at me with rounded eyes.

“Yes, she is.” I extended my arm to hold April’s hand in mine and pulled her forward. “April, you remember Jack?” Letting go of my hand, she kneeled to his eye level.

“Hey, Jack, it’s nice to see you again. How is your friend Beatrix doing?” Jack’s eyes flared.

“You remember her name?”

“Yes. How could I forget the name of the biggest fairies fan?”

“You want to meet her?” His voice was full of hope. And excitement.

April shrugged. “Sure.”

Jack lifted a finger to stop April from moving or talking. “Okay. Wait here. I’ll be right back.” He hurried inside, leaving April and me in the driveway.

“Guess we should go in,” I said, pushing her forward. Some sort of electricity passed between us from where my hand rested on her lower back. My heart jolted. I swallowed hard and kept walking.

Dahlia opened the door before I had time to knock.

“Hey, guys.” She rose on her tiptoes to kiss my cheek and greeted April with a warm smile. “Nice to see you again, April. Glad you two made up.” Pink Girl gave her a small, lopsided smile.

“Nice to see you too.”

“Carter told me you need winter clothes. I’m taller than you, but we’re about the same size. Follow me, we’ll find you something.” Dahlia grabbed April’s hand and led her away. “Give us a few minutes, Cart.”

“Where’s Nick?”

“Working,” Dahlia said from a distance.
