“With me?” I faked being surprised. Perhaps this girl would think she’d mistaken me for someone else. A little prayer never hurts anyone.
“No, silly. Her,” she said, pointing to Cotton Candy Girl on my right. “I love your hair.” Sassy Neighbor placed a hand over her heart. Her priceless reaction got me tongue-tied.
“You’re so cute. Sure. I’ve never done this before.”
The child walked over and handed me a phone—probably her mom’s—using a bossy tone to address me. “Here, mister. Take the shot, but not before I tell you to.”
Enjoying the dynamic of not being the one chased around a little too much, I snapped half a dozen pictures.
Picture Perfect Neighbor flustered, beautiful, shy, and stunned.
“This is weird. It has never happened before. Next thing I know, I’ll be signing autographs.”
I bit my lips to avoid laughing. Pixie made it almost impossible not to want to kiss her. Her eyes glistened with happiness. I wondered how her pink lips would feel around my shaft. Stop. Feeling involved in the conversation, my dick swelled in my pants, and I forced my mind to wander elsewhere. The old lady on our left. Desmond. Savannah. I swallowed and filled my lungs with much-needed air. That did the trick. Kinda. A little. And I huffed in relief.
“Believe me, you’re a natural. You should wear your shades inside too.” My neighbor poked her tongue out at me once more, and I resisted the urge to kiss the life out of her, here in the middle of the deli section.
My fingers itched to brush the soft skin hidden under her sweater and to get her hands all over me. I wanted to taste each inch of her skin. To finish what we’d started the other day. I had no idea for how long I’d be able to resist her. My body shook when all the dirty thoughts crossed my mind. I was doomed.
Pink Celebrity added chicken breasts to our buggy, and I put them back on the shelf.
“Hey. Give it back.”
“No meat for me, Fairy. You should try it.” She laughed, and I cracked a grin.
“It doesn’t matter. We’re not sharing a fridge, Big Guy.”
“Big Guy, huh? I think I prefer HN. Whatever it means. You’re not going back to your cabin, Bubble Gum. You’re staying with me, starting tonight.”
Pink Girl folded her arms over her chest and halted. The sparks in her eyes vanished. “Excuse me, who are you to decide where I should live?”
“Don’t be a brat, woman. There’s no way you’re sleeping in your cabin if you can’t lock the front door.”
“Don’t be a chicken, Hotshot. No pun intended. There’s a gate. Nothing can happen to me. I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself.”
“Yeah, right. Armed with a clicker? You’re right; you’re invincible.” Her gaze sent daggers at me, but it rather felt as if she were throwing kittens my way. Pixie stayed silent and glared at me.
“Why do you even care? I’m not a child, and I’m not your responsibility.”
“You’d be surprised the freaks you can come face-to-face with when you’re least expecting it.”
“Okay, first, there’s a gate around the lot. So, your ‘freaks’ argument isn’t good enough. And second, I love my cabin. I don’t want to move. Considering we both know you can be an ass, I prefer avoiding being around you for too long. I wouldn’t want to risk your cynicism rubbing off on me.”
“I’m not cynical. And I already proved to you I wasn’t an ass. You don’t have any logical reason to refuse. You’re not my responsibility, but gate or not, your safety matters to me.”
Fairy eyed me. How long would she fight me over this?
“Where will I sleep? No way we’re sharing a bed. Or a room. Last time we did, it didn’t end well.”
“Yeah, my dick still remembers.” Pixie nudged my arm.
“You know what I mean. Don’t be an ass.”
Amusement bubbled inside me, and I bit my inner cheek, silencing the wheezy snicker threatening to escape my mouth.
“You’ll never let it go, will you? Anyway, I bet I can find a guest room for you to sleep in. We won’t even be on the same floor. I’ll be a happy camper, I promise. And a very discreet roommate.”
“No funny business?”
