“Never.”

I trailed kisses from her lips to her navel, sucked on her diamond-hard nipples, and flicked her earlobe with the tip of my tongue.

We both came together, and I collapsed over her, breathless.

With a stretch of my arm, I grabbed my phone on the nightstand.

“Good news, we still have thirty-four minutes left. Let’s go take a shower.” My tongue lingered on April’s neck. When I stood, I scooped my woman over my shoulder once again.

“Feeling possessive, HN? Or you think cavemen are sexy?”

I chuckled. And groaned. “I’m making sure you can’t run away. If it means being a caveman, then let’s be it.”

“And what about those handcuffs you promised?” April arched a brow, and my heartbeat picked up.

“Don’t tempt me right now.”

Our hands traveled over each other’s wet skin; our mouths fused the entire time.

Half-dressed, I slid April’s sweater over her head, stealing a kiss as I did so.

April peppered kisses along the length of my throat as a thank you. I shivered, and my cock sprang to wood. Again.

The front door slammed open, and Saunders rushed in. April’s eyes widened as she took in her friend. “What’s wrong, Saund?”

I put my shirt on and raked my fingers through my still-wet, untamed mass of hair, trying to look respectable.

“Good, you guys are done. Sorry I barged in here.” Saunders halted, shut her eyes, and crinkled her nose. “Damn it, I could’ve seen things I wasn’t ready for. Thank God, you’re both dressed and decent.” She sighed and looked at us. “Where was I? Okay, sit tight, Bubble Head. You too, Country Bloke. This is huge.” April frowned. “Jenna, my accountant, called me because she knows we’re best friends—” Saunders stopped, catching her breath.

“Saund, you’re freaking me out right now. What is it?” I wrapped one arm around April’s tense shoulders. All color drained from her face. “Speak.” Reed and Taylor walked in at the same time.

“Did you tell them?” Reed asked with a cocked brow, pointing at us, a bag of Chinese food in his arms.

“Tell us what?” I asked, my patience growing thinner by the second.

“The Bensons gave an exclusive interview an hour ago. To Sixty Minutes of Truth . They talked about you. Travis. The foundation. Everything. They defended your honor, girl. Nobody will ever hate you again after the way they portrayed you. Jenna told me she cried through the entire interview. Did you know they would do this? Have you finally talked to them?” Saunders asked. My shoulders dropped, and a warm, fuzzy feeling ran through me.

From the way April cupped her mouth and the tears brightening her eyes, she’d had no clue her ex-in-laws planned to defend her honor on national television.

“They did?” she asked in a small voice. “They stood up for me?”

Saunders, Reed, and Taylor all nodded. Saunders clamped April’s shoulders.

“Jenna told me it was epic. She tried to call me when it started, but I’d left my phone in the car.”

April and I stared at each other.

Reed broke the silence. “Hey, guys, I checked, and we can re-watch the interview online. Let’s set up, I’ll put it on.”

My phone went off at the same time. June.

“Hey, Carter, have you heard?”

I nodded as if she could see me from her end of the line. “Yes. I did. Was it good?”

“Are you kidding? It was amazing. You both need to watch this. I tried to call you half an hour ago, but it went to voice mail. Anyway, tell April I miss her, and I’ll see you both soon.” We hung up and April, Saunders, Reed, Taylor, and I sat around in the living room, drinking in every word coming out of Mr. and Mrs. Benson’s mouths, barely eating anything.

April sobbed, and I enveloped her in my arms. My head fell back, and all the tension in me evaporated.
