April
W ith my back pressed against the bathroom door, I couldn’t get the expression on Carter’s face out of my head. For a moment, I thought he’d force himself in.
By now I knew the look.
Parted lips, dark irises, purpose in his eyes, straight back, squared shoulders, and intent in his every step.
Carter Hills was dangerous. He could shatter me with only a glance my way.
His stamina in the bedroom was out of this world. His sexual endurance rivaled that of a college frat boy, and he had more moves than an entire cheerleader squad in bed.
He simply never got enough.
And I freaking loved it. I wondered if he performed this well with any woman he ever slept with or if the chemistry between us made him this insatiable.
After losing Travis, I became a nun in the sex department—Saunders had reminded me many times—and no other guy touched me for over a year.
Then I gave dating a try. Big fail.
I wasn’t cut out for one-nighters. I learned it the hard way after I let an egotistical jerk into my pants. He came before I even got in the mood. The type of guy who’s only focused on his own pleasure.
“I hope it was as good for you as it was for me,” he said. Hair stood still on my arms. What a jerk.
I ran away the minute he disappeared in the bathroom to clean himself up and blocked his number. Even the memory of him engaged my gag reflex.
Sex with Carter was everything I dreamed of after going through a dry spell for so long.
A strong male who liked to take control and flip me around to satisfy both our needs, with a dose of playfulness and a side of tenderness.
Carter knew everything my body craved without me having to say anything.
It scared me the way I always wanted more of him, but it reassured me when I realized he never got enough of me either. I didn’t care if he took the lead as long as we both enjoyed the way we satisfied our most primal instincts.
The mere thought of him ignited my flesh.
I fanned myself and clamped my legs together, calming the ache building deep inside me.
No. I wouldn’t touch myself. This was Carter’s job now. To get me undone.
My bath wasn’t as relaxing as I thought it’d be. Why did I chase my man away? Our hot make-out session had left me craving a release. Or two. I sucked in a calming breath, unlocked the bathroom door, and peeked into the bedroom. No sign of Carter. He wasn’t back yet. If he was half as horny and needy as I was, he’d spend the entire night at the gym. A smile tugged at my lips.
In dire need of a distraction, I got ready. The same way Betty had done last night, I applied golden eyeshadow and black eyeliner, giving my lids a smokey look, then added a touch of bronzer to my cheeks. Two coats of mascara and a single swipe of natural pink lip gloss completed the look.
I smacked my lips together and straightened my hair, ready for whatever tonight would bring my way. Carter hadn’t revealed any of his plans. In the bedroom, I slid into the ombre sequin dress. I spun around, hoping to drive him crazy tonight.
The door of our suite opened, and my heart jumped around in my chest, thrilled and feverish.
I blew out a jagged breath. I was ready.
Carter wolf-whistled as his eyes traveled the length of my body. Shivers ran through me. He erased the distance between us and brushed my lips with his. “I won’t be long, April. Stay out of the bedroom if you don’t want to spend the night here.” He winked, and my knees buckled. How could Carter Hills have so much effect on me? Each time his eyes landed on me, he pulled me into a trance. I swallowed hard as Carter locked himself in the bathroom.
Carter joined me ten minutes later dressed in dark jeans and a rolled-at-the-elbows, buttoned-up navy shirt, his hair gelled into a just-got-fucked kind of way. He looked every shade of handsome. I bit my lower lip and clenched my thighs together.
“Where are we going?” I asked, my voice throaty and low, when his hands circled my waist.
He leaned forward and whispered in my ear, his warm breath sending electric bolts down to my toes, “Nathaniel’s. June got us a table there.”
I cocked my head to meet his eyes. “Nathaniel’s as in Drew Zerlinger’s restaurant? The celebrity chef?”
