He smiled grimly. “That hasn’t changed.”
“All right.”
“I’m set to inherit everything.”
“Well, naturally. You’re the only living relative, right?”
“Yeah.” He took another sip of his drink and found that his throat was still as dry as dust.
“There’s a stipulation.”
“Which is?”
“They have shrimp scampi. We should order.”
Sensing he needed the reprieve, she nodded and lifted a hand. It took that to have the besotted Paul materialize.
Craig wondered cynically if the man had just been waiting to be summoned by her. When she placed the order, he all but bowed at her feet.
His annoyance doubled and he could feel the anger coursing through his veins. Before he could voice his displeasure, he jolted when someone called out her name.
“Phillipe!” The pleasure was evident in her husky voice as the slimly built, dark-haired man wearing an expensive ash-gray suit hurried towards them.
His frown deepened when he hauled her up and crushed his mouth to hers in an intimate kiss that had people staring.
“Regina, darling, you look even more beautiful than ever.” He wrapped his arms around her, before easing her back a few inches.
“How on earth do you do it?”
“By sheer will,” she laughed, that rolling husky laugh that had people looking at her. “What on earth are you doing here?”
“A modeling assignment. Something to do with Romano’s new fragrance.”
He noticed her companion for the first time.
“Oh, darling, this is an old friend of mine. Craig Muldoon. Craig, this is Phillipe Bernard.”
“Charmed, I’m sure,” Craig said coolly.
“Hi.” Dismissing Craig, the man turned back to Regina and went into an animated discussion on his assignment.
Craig felt his anger simmering.
“I have to run, darling. You have my number. We should do lunch,” Phillipe said.
“Oh, absolutely,” Regina said.
They kissed again before she slid back down onto the chair.
“Lover?” Craig asked.
“Friend. Phillipe is gay. Jealous?” she taunted.
“Not at all,” Craig said.
“Ah, here’s the food. Thanks, Paul.”
“If you need anything else, just indicate,” Paul said.
