“What about them?”
I keep my voice light. “Do they know their crop-top prince declared himself publicly claimed at the raspado stand?”
He huffs. “My tía and Junior know.”
“And?”
“He texted my tío.”
My eyebrows shoot up. “He what?”
“Sent him the video.”
“Oh my God.” Fuck… I can’t tell by his demeanor if this is bad or not.
“Yeah.”
“What did he say?”
Fabián stirs the soup like it has insulted him.
“Fabián.”
“He asked if I was going to bring you to dinner or keep acting stupid.”
I go completely still.
“What?”
His mouth twists.
“He said if I’m going to announce things in front of strangers, I can announce them at his table too.”
My throat tightens, and the apartment feels too small suddenly.
“He also said you talk too much.”
I laugh once. “That’s a fair assessment.”
“He also said I looked less pissed off standing next to you.”
I stare at him, and he avoids my eyes by reaching for bowls.
“Fabián.”
“Hmm?” He shifts to grab spoons out of the drawer.
“That was information you withheld all day?”
He shrugs, but his shoulders sit too high. “I didn’t know how to say it.”
“That your family didn’t disown you for wanting to be with a man?”
His head snaps up, and maybe the joke came out wrong.
I know it the second I say it.
His face closes a little.
