The realization hit him like an anvil falling from the sky in a Road Runner cartoon. They might not have spoken until a couple of days ago, but these last few days had certainly made up for that. They’d done nothing but talk. Well, talking and fucking. If there was anyone who Sienna would have on her good side right now, certainly it would be the guy she’d just spent the weekend naked with, right?
Well, if that’s what she thought, she was mistaken.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Sargent—”
“Please, it’s Bob.”
“Okay, Bob,” Caleb said, trying not to sound exasperated. “I’m sorry, but I’m not the best person to give you a reference for Si…Miss Sloan.”
The anger Caleb felt rising up in him was spreading through him faster than he could tamp it down. How could he have let himself be taken like this again? He had no idea what kind of magical powers Sienna Sloan possessed that made her so fucking irresistible, but he needed to find the antidote. He couldn’t let himself keep falling for her lies. This time had really been above and beyond too—roping her whole family into it.
“Really?”
“Yes. In fact Miss Sloan and I have never met to discuss Cosmas products. She meets with some of the other doctors in this practice occasionally, just not me. And I don’t see that changing. Ever.”
“Oh, well,” the older man sputtered. “If that is how you feel, then I guess I don’t have any further questions.”
Caleb nodded curtly, standing up and showing his guest out. Rage was flowing through him now, and he flexed his fingers, trying to stay calm. What he really wanted to do was scream and maybe toss a few chairs, letting his anger fly. The audacity of Sienna to do this—to use him once again to get ahead. He should have known better. He shouldn’t have let himself get duped all over again.
Less than an hour ago he’d been unable to stop thinking about her. About how she’d felt in his arms, underneath his body, and wrapped around his dick. About how she made him feel things he’d never felt—and had thought he never would. He’d thought that he was falling for her. Well, he had fallen, in a way. Just not the kind that was going to end with the two of them hosting their own dream wedding at Somerset House.
“Greg!” he hollered, storming down the hall toward his buddy’s office.
“What?”
“Is Courtney expecting you home right away?”
“I dunno. Why?”
“I need a fucking drink.”
