I simply chuckled, then opened the front door for her. Her security detail hadn’t moved an inch, keeping my circular driveway occupied.

“We’ll talk later, Heir,” I called to her back.

“Goodbye, Kody,” she responded flippantly and got into the waiting sedan. As soon as the door closed, the car took off.

As Heir’s chauffeured sedan left down my driveway, Kim’s G-Wagon came up the driveway. Dex was right behind her. Kim parked in the same spot Heir’s detail had just vacated. She got of her G-Wagon and stormed my way.

“Are you crazy, Kody? We agreed that you would keep your hands off her!”

I kissed my sister’s forehead, then picked her up and spun her around. Normally when I did this, she would squeal like a little ass kid. She didn’t this time. She knocked me upside my head.

“Put me down! This is serious!”

Wincing, I sat her on her feet. Nobody ever got that close to put hands on me. The feeling was a bit foreign.

“Chill out, Kim. It’s me you talkin’ to.”

“Yeah, but you seemed to have lost your mind. If you gon’ lose it, lose it over a woman who won’t get you killed. Mom would lose her shit if something happened to you. I would too.”

I mugged her. “You tryin’ to call me a pussy, baby girl?”

She looked offended. “No. I’m saying that war is unnecessary, bro. Leave the Bells alone before you’re forced to take it there with them. You know I’m coming behind you blazing, but if we don’t have to take it there, let’s not.”

“You in my business, but where the hell you been?”

My question threw her off. Her face flushed, and I could tell she wanted to dodge the question. However, like a G, she mugged me.

“If you must know, I was on a date.”

“On a date? With who?”

“A man.”

“What man, Kim?”

She glanced away, and her teeth worried over her bottom lip.

“Wait. I know this nigga, don’t I?”

“Somewhat,” she mumbled.

“Kim—"

My reply was thwarted by an unfamiliar Ghost pulling up to my gate. Upon further inspection, I chuckled. Dex headed back down the driveway to investigate. It only took a couple of minutes for him to let Adir Bell through. A Suburban followed Adir inside the gate and up the driveway.

“Oh, my God,” Kim mumbled as she watched the Ghost park behind her G-Wagon. “See!” she hissed at me like we’d just been caught sneaking some food that was off limits.

“Chill, baby,” I told her again. “Everything’s fine. Go inside and give me a minute.”

I waited for Kim to go inside, slipped my hands inside the pockets of my joggers, and approached Adir who’d stepped out of his Ghost and approached me. Glancing at the Suburban, I threw my head up at Alli and Noa, who’d stepped out of the Suburban. Turning back to Adir, his face was unreadable, as was mine.

“I expected you last night,” I said by way of greeting.

He glanced around my property, taking his time before addressing me.

“We’ve been cool for a while,” he started. “We came to an agreement, one that I would hope you decide to stick to.”

Although silent, he was right about our agreement. We hadn’t crossed paths since he found me covered in my family’s blood.
