With a self-satisfied smirk, I felt his hand on my back as I walked up the front walkway. I rang the doorbell.
“You don’t have keys to your own place?”
“I forgot them.”
“It’s a good thing you’re gorgeous.”
That’s right. I have no brain, just muscles.
I cursed myself as I leaned in for another kiss, but maybe this would embolden Henry to tell his crush about his feelings. The door opened – perfect timing – and I heard someone clear their throat. Turning, I saw Henry holding the door open, but his father was right behind him.
“Why’d you ring the doorbell?”
Derek answered for me. “He forgot his keys.”
Clayton grunted.
I said a quick goodnight to Derek and entered the house. Before Derek could say anything back, Clayton slammed the door so hard I jumped.
SEVEN
CLAYTON
My own reaction surprised me. It obviously surprised Jack, since he jumped out of his own skin. Skin I so desperately wanted to caress ever since I had an eyeful of his ass.
My preparations for the interview went well, but when I asked Henry where Jack was and heard the answer, I was mildly disappointed. It had seemed that in a short time, I had become used to his presence in the house. When I saw who he had been on a date with and his lips on Jack’s, I snapped.
Despite my lack of dominance in the bedroom, something every former sexual partner had criticized me of, I felt a strong urge to drag Jack there when I found an ogre making out with him on my doorstep.
“How was your date?” Henry asked. He almost sounded excited.
“It was alright,” Jack answered.
At least he didn’t sound as excited as Henry.
“Do all your dates have fancy cars?”
Jack laughed. “No, Henry, that was an exception.”
“Are you seeing him again?”
I was shocked at Henry’s interest and equally surprised at Jack’s patience with his answers. But I also wanted to hear what Jack had to say.
“No.” Jack shook his head. “He wasn’t the right one for me.”
Henry nodded and walked off. I heard the familiar sound of video games before Jack cleared his throat and asked, “Everything okay? You seem tense?”
“I…I just hadn’t seen you with another man before. That’s all.”
That’s all? Why the fuck did I say that?!
“Oh.” Jack’s expression was unreadable. “I did have an ulterior motive.”
To go on a date? I was confused. “Were you trying to make me jealous?”
His expression changed to one of surprise. “Did…it work?”
It had, but there was no way I was going to tell him that. It worked enough that I wanted to tear his shirt off and push him up against the wall, but I couldn’t do that. I had enough to worry about. My carnal desires could wait.
