Steely dark-brown eyes met hers and then looked beyond them. His face contorted into a sneer, and he twisted the throttle, making his bike roar.

“Get on,” Kev shouted.

Pete’s fingers grazing her back made her heart stop as she twisted and threw her leg over the bike.

Wrapping her arms around Kev, she squeezed him.

From his waistband, Pete pulled a gun.

A fucking gun.

Kelsey tucked her head against Kev, praying that he was bulletproof. The large patches on the back scratched her cheeks. She closed her eyes and waited for Pete to shoot them.

Instead, the bike dipped to the left. The loud engine filled her ears as the motorcycle lurched forward.

Pop. Pop. Pop.

Kevlar

Kevlar couldn’t keep stumbling on the Scorpion piece of shit harassing what was his. This had to stop happening. Yogi had officially pissed him off.

He pulled into the parking lot of the Knucklehead and went around to the rear. Spotting some familiar bikes, he nodded to himself. Good. He wouldn’t be alone. After settling into a spot, he cut the engine.

He patted Kelsey’s hand, which clung to him with a death grip. “Get off, Kitten.”

Reluctantly, she dismounted the bike. Wrapping herself in a hug, she scanned the lot.

“You’re safe,” he reassured her as he swung his leg over.

Stepping closer to her, he placed his hands on her shoulders and found her fearful eyes.

Trembling, she met his gaze.

“Why didn’t you call me?” He’d given her his number for a reason. As fun and cute as the flirty text messages were, he intended for her to reach out to him for just this purpose. He needed to know where the Scorpions were.

She was an unintentional spy.

“I didn’t have my phone.” Tears streamed down her cheeks. “I thought it was you. I opened the door.”

Frowning, he pulled her against him. He hugged her tightly as she sobbed into his chest. This was his fault. Perhaps his habit of showing up unannounced at her place wasn’t all that convenient. While easier, it might not be the best.

Whenever he had a free night and a need, he’d pop in on her. Kelsey wasn’t always available, but when she was, they both enjoyed his visits thoroughly. She was allowed to have a life. If she were his old lady, he would have one of those tracking apps on her phone. Maybe that wasn’t a bad idea. If Yogi had stepped up his game from ambushing her in public to her apartment, Kevlar would need to know where she was at all times.

The Bloody Scorpions couldn’t be trusted. Especially the pests that had set up shop on his turf. Unfortunately, Kevlar wasn’t in the position to do much about it. He needed numbers, and he didn’t have them yet. Three and a half members weren’t enough to take them on. As a Royal Bastard, he had more resources available than what was local. He didn’t want to play that card this early in establishing his new chapter. Proving that Jameson had made the right choice in appointing him president meant he had to figure this shit out on his own.

Though if Yogi crossed a line, he might force Kevlar’s hand.

“Did he touch you?” Yogi was long overdue for an ass-whooping, but if he laid a hand on Kelsey, he signed his death warrant. There was no coming back from that.

“I handled it,” she said.

He ground his teeth as agitation had him shaking.

Kevlar should’ve been relieved, and part of him was, but there was the annoyed half of him that just needed an excuse. Letting out a breath, he ran a hand down her tangled blond mane.

“Let’s get inside so you can calm down,” he suggested.
