“I don’t think you’re…” Again, she stopped herself mid-sentence.
“You really believe he’s going to show up?” Kevlar asked before she could dig her hole any deeper.
She nodded.
Kevlar glanced toward his brother and considered his options. He could go back to a hotel with Kid, or he could shack up with this pretty little thing for the night.
If there ever was a no-brainer, this situation was it.
He smiled and curled his finger under her chin. “You want me to stick around?”
Her eyes widened, offering him an unobstructed view of the most beautiful crystal blues he’d ever seen.
Damn.
What he wouldn’t give to look down into those while they filled with tears as she choked on his cock.
Consensually, of course. He wasn’t a Bloody Scorpion fuckhead.
Panic tinted her cheeks pink.
“If you want me to hang around. I will, but I’m not sitting out here on my bike,” he said.
Her throat bobbed with a swallow.
“Ask me to stay, Kitten, and I will.” He didn’t want to assume.
She had to be the one to make the request. Kevlar had misread situations before, but he had a pretty good feeling she looked for him to protect her.
For some reason, he was eager to do so.
“W-will you come in?” she asked in the tiniest mouselike voice he’d ever heard.
Biting back a groan and doing his best to shove his illicit thoughts out of his brain, he grinned wide. “Good girl.”
Without thinking, he took hold of her face and pressed a soft peck to her forehead.
She gasped, and her cheeks turned bright red. That was probably too far but worth her reaction.
He chuckled as she backed up, giving him space to dismount from his bike.
“Let me talk to my brother.” He gestured toward Kid.
“Sure.” She dipped her chin and tucked a bit of hair behind her ear. “I’ll get the door.”
He winked and shifted his focus to his brother.
The expression on Kid’s face was one of impatience. They’d been on the road far too long. They had a lot of work to do if they were going to establish a foothold in Oklahoma again. Dogs were already sniffing around his stomping grounds. They didn’t have time for this bullshit.
But Kevlar was going to take the brief break anyway. What was one night? In reality, only a few hours. They could spare them. He and his brother could use the rest before doing anything important.
He sauntered over to Kid and placed a hand on his shoulder. “I’m gonna keep a lookout for the Bloody Scorpion.”
Kid arched a skeptical brow.
“I’ll meet up with you at the shop in the morning,” Kevlar said.
Checking in with Remi was on their list of things to do. Tomorrow seemed like the perfect time. That way, they could get the lay of the land ahead of time.
