“Yes. She’s a lovely girl. Well, I don’t know her personally, but she’s my friend’s daughter. She’s your age, divorced, and goes to church regularly.”

“Mom. I just got home.” He groaned.

“I think he’d like Jimmy’s teacher,” Hailey chimed in.

“Whoa. Let’s slow down. I’ve been home like a minute. I’m not ready to start dating.” He shook his head, cutting them off before they could start planning his future wedding to either of these women.

You asked a woman for a date two days ago.

Cade shut down the annoying voice in his head. Now wasn’t the time to show weakness, not with his mom and sister circling like sharks.

“You can’t let one bad experience stop you from finding a good woman.” His mother tsked.

One? Try every relationship he had. Hell, he almost had a panic attack dancing the other night. “Settling down isn’t in my plans at the moment.”

“He won’t have time for a woman. He’ll be busy with work and classes.” His father jumped into the fray.

Really, Dad? Cade bit his tongue. What was this? Pile on Cade night?

His mom cleared her throat. “Time for dessert. Eric, will you come help me?”

“I got it, Mom.” Bryan slid his chair back.

“No. Your father can help me.” Her look shot daggers at Dad, but she smiled as sweet as pie.

A chill ran down Cade’s back. Mom was pissed. But was it because his dad shot down her matchmaking, or because he brought up college again? Either way, Cade was thankful for the reprieve.

College was definitely not in his plans, but dating? He glanced at his phone in the bag of rice. Okay, one woman had him on the edge, debating if he should dive into the dating pool again.
