“Oh, poor Tia. She will be unbearable.”
“Nah, she’s already planning a wedding party for us. I tried to talk her out of it, with your wedding coming soon and Mira and Harrison’s engagement, but she wouldn’t hear of it.” Lorna turned a deeper shade of pink. Amy would guess she didn’t like to be the main attraction at a party.
“Let me talk to her. She’s really come a long way when it comes to accepting not everything will be done her way.” Liz said.
Mira snorted. “Sorry, did that slip out.”
“Honey, you need to stop trying so hard to get her to like you.” Lorna patted Mira’s arm.
“Well, if anyone can get her to change her mind it’s Liz. You’re her favorite.”
It was true, and they all knew it.
“Tia really does like you, Mira. She just loves rattling you.”
“I’ll try. But she scares the pee out of me sometimes.”
They all nodded in agreement.
Amy spotted Candi the moment she walked in. She towered over half the crowd and her blonde hair shined in the mood lighting. Her casual walking shorts and T-shirt might be a little underdressed for Fire Hearth, but she wore it like she was the Queen of England. No one questioned it.
Amy waved her over.
“Guys, this is Candi.” Amy introduced her. “This is Lorna, Liz, Mira, and Kate.’
The server stopped and took their drink orders before slipping back to the bar.
Kate leaned in. “So, you’re a cop, too.”
Candi didn’t seem phased by the question. “Yup. Amy and I have been friends since we bonded at the Academy.”
Amy smiled. “Takedowns and cuffs.”
“That sounds like your Friday nights, Kate.” Lorna ribbed.
Kate gave a noncommittal nod.
Mira leaned in, admiring Candi’s shirt. “Love the vintage tee.”
“Thanks, it was my mom’s. She was a groupie and slept with four out of the five band members.”
Lorna choked on her drink.
Liz’s eyes widened.
Kate nodded her approval.
“Really?” Mira asked.
“No, I just like to see people's reactions when I tell them that.” Candi smirked.
The server deposited their beverages and was gone again.
“I like her.” Liz lifted her drink to toast the newcomer.
“Me, too.” Lorna raised her glass.
“I’d like her better if it were true, but she can hang with us.” Kate’s martini glass joined the others.
