“Did you hear me?”
Right. Kyan and Wyatt are different people. “But the same body,” I say. “How am I supposed to tell who’s who?”
There’s silence, then I hear the shampoo open. “They both act differently.”
“What if I accidentally call one the other’s name?”
“Don’t.” The answer is harsh again. “You don’t want to trigger Wyatt out when Ky is fronting.”
I pause. “So then wouldn’t it trigger Ky out if Wyatt was fronting?”
Holli sighs. “I don’t know.”
It’s hard to wrap my mind around this whole thing. Why hasn’t Ky said anything about it? Why didn’t he warn me?
I’m reaching down to grab my shirt when Holli says, “Don’t talk to Ky about Wyatt. Just pretend like everything is fine.”
I frown. It’s like she was reading my mind. “Why?”
Holli pokes her head around the shower curtain. “Are you being stupid, or is that a real question?”
Defensiveness fills me. “What’s stupid about that?”
“Ky doesn’t know Wyatt exists and vice versa.”
I just stand there for a second, rolling that ridiculous idea around in my head. Why wouldn’t they know? They share a body.
“Did you hear me, Oakley?” Holli’s voice is sharp again.
“Yeah, I heard you.” I’m annoyed now. Holli is angry at me, assuming I’m stupid. I’m not stupid. There’s no need to get snippy with me.
“Good. Don’t ruin this.”
I glower, storming out of the bathroom. And yet, my dick is still hard, and all I can think about is that island away from everyone where Holli punishes me using that same tone while Kyan grins up at me from where I’m riding him. And when we’re done, everyone collapses together, and no one leaves.
CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
Day 9
Big people are fighting. I hear them over the sounds of the shower. It’s a girl and a boy, and I clap my hands over my ears, my body crunching up.
I need to hide. If I stay small enough, they won’t be able to find me.
I get stiff, waiting for them to come kick me.
I have to get smaller and stop breathing. Then they’ll forget why they were mad. They’ll forget, and I can be a big boy again.
CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR
Day 9
I’m on the couch, clutching a pillow like I’m hiding behind it. There’s a little voice inside my head screaming. Not safe. We’re not safe.
Immediately, I throw the pillow away so hard it thwaps on the couch.
What the hell is happening with Weston? He has this ability to sink his claws into people who are close. He did it to our youngest brother, Waylon, until Waylon ended up dead from an overdose. Now he’s clearly coming after me by starting a coup on my own fucking island.
Footsteps pad on the floor, and I stand, seeing Oakley walking down the hallway. His hair is wet, and he throws me a quick smile before moving to the kitchen.
