The young man smiled back at her, his mismatched blue and brown eyes gleaming with interest.
Fletcher decided to wait until the morning before he discovered more about the castaway, and from there went up to his bed chamber, where he found Lark sitting and sewing by lamplight. From the look of the fine rose silk she was stitching she had begun work on another gown for Lady Valerie, perhaps one she intended to wear at their wedding.
“There you are.” Lark tucked her needle into the silk and set it aside before she rose and came to embrace him. “I thought I might have to come downstairs and drag you to bed.”
“Never must you drag me, my lass.” He kissed the top of her head. “The laird wishes speak with you on the morrow, and I imagine he wishes name you the clan’s seamstress. What say you?”
“Hmmm.” She pretended to think. “I think that I’ll think about it, now that I’m immortal like you.”
That discovery they’d made together when Fletcher had taken her underwater, and she showed the same ability to remain there without drowning as the MacMar could. His sire’s magic had transformed her just as it had Lady Valerie, which was likely why Lark hadn’t been killed by the fall through the stronghold’s roof.
“You wish do something other than sew?” he asked, nuzzling the side of her neck.
“I think depending on one person to handle all the sewing for hundreds and hundreds of MacMar and all their household staff is a bit unrealistic. I’m going to want some quality time with this very handsome man in my life. A lot of time.” She drew back to smile at him. “How about I agree to become the clan’s sewing teacher, and we start training some girls and boys to join the Hall of Makers as seamstresses, tailors, pattern makers and clothing designers?”
He chuckled. “I cannae see why the laird should disagree.”
“Good. I also want to teach some basic sewing skills to Valerie’s students, and it wouldn’t hurt for the garrison to learn how to do minor garment repairs, either.” As he started to reply she pressed a finger to his lips. “All to be done during the daytime, so that the nights belong to you and me.”
Fletcher lifted her into his arms, and carried her over to their bed. “I like how you think, my lass.”
