“Sal Marconi put out a hit on Peter Stockman. We have to find him first. Ideas? Remember, he’s injured, but we don’t know how bad.”

“He won’t go home,” Margo said. “Do you think he’d go to Marconi’s place?”

“He’s not here at the club.”

“Maybe to kill him,” Margo said.

Jack dismissed the idea. “Too many people, security, and Marconi is in a safe room. He went to Mildred’s to get money to run. He’s desperate. He may come after one of us, but at this point, his world is falling apart around him. He’ll want to lay low. Targeting Mildred could have been simply to get the money he needs to disappear.”

“Makes sense,” Margo said after a beat. “So where does he go now that he’s been shot?”

“Somewhere he feels safe,” Jack said. “A place to literally nurse his wounds.” Jack had no idea where that would be. “He’ll know the police are looking for him, so he can’t go home or to the border or the airport. He has a car, but he’ll probably dump it. Still, he could steal a car, head out of state. He won’t use his credit cards, but he might have enough cash to lay low for a while.”

“I can call his ex-wife. She might know of property he owns, friends, family,” Margo said. “Hold on.” Jack heard Cal talking in the background, then Margo said, “Cal’s going to call the feds who took Tim Miller into custody. That guy might have an idea where Stockman will go. He certainly knew a lot more than he shared with us the first time he talked.”

Jack said, “We’re heading to the office. We’ll be there in five minutes.”

Chapter Forty-Seven

Margo Angelhart

Teri Stockman didn’t answer her phone, and I wondered if Peter had already reached out to her. She didn’t like her ex-husband, but he was the father of her children and she might have a tiny soft spot for him.

Cal, on the other hand, was brilliant. I knew I’d fallen for the right guy.

He hung up the phone and said, “According to Miller, Stockman has a girlfriend in Sedona. He doesn’t know where she lives or works, but her name is Gina.”

“Gina in Sedona. That doesn’t help us.”

“Actually, it does.” He picked up his cell phone and a minute later had my sister Tess on speaker. “Tess, it’s Cal and Margo. Peter Stockman has a girlfriend named Gina in Sedona. Can you find her?”

“Last name?”

“Don’t have one.”

“You ask for the impossible,” Tess said.

“Margo said you’re the best at research. Maybe someone who is connected to his social media?”

Jack and Luisa walked into the office. I put up my hand and motioned to Cal on the phone.

“I’m ahead of you,” Tess said with a laugh. “Okay, let’s see . . . Stockman has no Ginas or Reginas on his LinkedIn profile. Oh. But . . . just a sec . . . I have one Sedona connection. Re-Energy IV, on Main Street.”

“What is that?” I asked.

“IV infusions, like rehydration.”

“That stuff is amazing,” Luisa said.

“Sounds miserable,” I commented. “Getting an IV inserted on purpose? Just, nope.”

“Got it!” Tess said. “Gina Younger, RN, works for Re-Energy. She’s very pretty. I’m sending you her page from the website.”

“You are amazing,” Cal told Tess. “Can you find her home address?”

“That might take a bit more time, but she has a large social media presence, so I’ll call you back.”

Tess ended the call.
