“Get us everything you can on him,” I said. I looked at her then. “Did you ever get his first name?”

She shook her head.

“Find out, Silas,” I said. “I want to know everything. Where he lives. Where he works. Family. Daily routine. Everything.”

“He’s still at Bagras,” he said, “but not for long since they’re moving into a new facility. Munich, I think. I’ll confirm and get back to you.”

I nodded.

“I’ll be in touch.” He opened the car door. “In the meantime, stay put.”

He started the car and put it in reverse, not waiting for a reply.

We walked back to the car in silence. I handed her the folder. She tucked it under her arm as she got in. She was quiet, but I knew that look.

Moments later, we were on the road headed back to the cabin.

“You don’t have to do this, you know,” I said.

“Yes, I do.” Her voice was even, steady. “He’s going to pay.”

“Then I’m with you.”

She reached for my hand. I gave it to her.

“I know,” she said. “That’s why I can do it.”

The rest of the car ride was silent. Not the heavy kind. The kind before battle.

The calm before we burned down the world together.

Chapter 30 | Anna

The next day, I spread out the contents of the file folder across the dining table. I’d been staring at the wealth of information for hours. Until my eyes were gritty.

Silas had said it wasn’t much. What did he consider much? Because this included locations of facilities, building floor plans, schematics, guard rotations, security systems—everything. And again, I was glad he was working with us.

“If Silas thought this wasn’t much information, I’m scared to know what he thinks is a lot,” I said.

Kincade sat across from me looking at the floor plan of the medical facility I’d been in at Bagras.

“This is the medical facility they had you in?” he asked.

“Yes. It smelled new. Like it had just been built. Everything was pristine.”

I sensed his simmering fury. Like he was ready to murder everyone inside with his bare hands and then torch the building.

Kinda liked that about him. Also, I’d help.

“I don’t think that should be the focus,” I said, pulling his attention back to me.

He looked up and for a split second, I saw his eyes were muted green. Yep. Murderous intent. Then they warmed back to their usual color. Like he pulled himself back. Funny how I noticed that more and more.

“You have another idea?” he asked.

“Yes.” I slid some papers aside and then pushed the one of the building I’d been obsessing over for the last half hour. “This one.”

It was a small research facility on the outskirts of Iskenderun. Not far from the castle ruins itself. Not the headquarters either as far as I could tell. I still hadn’t figured out where that was from all the information loaded in that folder.
