Margo storms into the hauler, almost taking the door with her. Crank is right behind her. “What in the hell?”
“We need to take some pictures of her arm and her face. We’re going to fight; we just have to find a different way to do it.” My words are venomous, and still, they don’t equal the wrath coming Lane’s way.
Margo takes Spencer to the bedroom so she can help her get some photos. Crank and I head over to the garage; there’s been a development with the car.
“As you can see, it’s fine, but Margo’s right its sabotage.” Crank lays down a bag in front of me. There a small amount of grit, not enough to kill the motor, but it’ll definitely ground me.
“Did y’all video it?” Crank nods as I take out my phone. “Get it into the safe and share the video with no one.”
Crank’s brows furrow. “You’re not thinking?”
“You tell me, how in the hell would anyone else get close enough?” It’s a hard pill to swallow, but Crank knows I’m right. We have a traitor and one that I might kill if I get my hands on them.
Crank grabs the bag and heads off toward the hauler. I scroll through my phone, finding the two numbers I need. I hit the first one, sending a quick text.
Rush: I might need a seat warmer.
Rush: You up to it?
Chase: Hell yeah!
Chase: But why?
Rush: I’m probably gonna be suspended.
Chase: Lane?
Rush: Yeah, can’t give deets now.
Chase: Let me know.
Chase: Anything.
Rush: Thanks.
I immediately hit dial on the next one. Two rings in and the man I need picks up.
“Rush, how are you?” Colton is my voice of reason; he’ll get me focused and tell me what to do.
“Hell, I don’t even know, but I need some advice.”
“I’m listening.” With Colton’s answer, I launch into my story as I search for a safe place to talk about everything.
“Margo has reason to believe someone is adding trace amounts of sand in our motor oil. We do have proof it’s there, and that it came out but nothing on how it got there.”
Colton takes a deep breath. “You realize this could lead to wrecking you because of engine failure on the track or worse.”
“Well, as bad as that sounds, it isn’t the worse. Lane accosted Spencer. She’s bruised, and MAXCAR says there’s not much they can do.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me? I need a flight; I’m going to Bristol.” I knew Colton wouldn’t wait, and I sure as hell don’t want to anymore.
I sigh heavily. “Lane says he has photos of them. He pulled her over to an out of the way area and tried to make it look like she was kissing him. It’s bad, Colton.”
“How is Spencer?” Colton grumbles. He’s angry, and with every right. Hell, I’m livid.
“She’s a mess,” I swallow past the bile, knotting in my throat. “I’m not far from losing my shit.”
The tone of his voice speaks volumes. “Rush, I’ve got your back.”
