“I do, I start tomorrow.”

She shakes her head as she walks the glasses and liquor to the kitchen. “You told him you’d start tomorrow? You have lost your mind.”

“Yeah, I felt it was the least I could do after ditching him and them giving me a bonus to sign on.”

“Bonus? You didn’t say anything about a bonus.” She sits beside me.

“One hundred thousand.” I nod as I wrinkle my nose. “My contract is for one hundred thousand with a contingency of fifty grand if I need to stay longer.”

Millie stands, holding her hand out. “Come on, take it.”

“Why?”

She grips my hand, yanking me up. “We need to sober you up, come up with a plan, and pick out your clothes for tomorrow because you’re either going to your death or getting fucked, and both require killer shoes!”

“Good morning, Miss Turner.” Alice greets me with a smile as I step from the elevator.

“Good morning, Alice.” I return her smile. “I assume you can show me where I’ll be working.”

She stands, handing me a manila envelope. “In here you’ll find your badge, parking credentials to the top floor so you don’t have to walk so far, key card to the file room, a key card to your office and all your log-in codes.”

“Alright, thank you. You are so prepared this morning.”

She waves me off. “Mister Daly compiled the list. I only gathered everything.”

“Please be sure to tell Lachlan thank you.”

Her eyes wrinkle in the corners. “I meant Lennox. He may come across like he isn’t organized, but he likes things prepared.”

“So he does.” Maybe he doesn’t hate me. “If you could point me in the direction of my office.”

“Mister Daly would like to see you first, if you don’t mind.” She points to the office.

I cut my eyes from her to the door and back. “Like now, right now?”

She nods. “Yes, ma’am.”

“Oh, okay. Yeah, sure.” I straighten my red pencil skirt and check my blouse, that I’m rethinking. White with big red flowers on it is too much for the first day.

I tap on the door, hoping he doesn’t hear but no luck; he answers immediately. “Come in.”

I take a deep breath and push it open. “Good morning, Mister Daly. Alice said you wanted to see me.”

“Please, come in and have a seat.” He hasn’t looked up from his computer.

I hurry over, dropping my things in the chair next to me. The envelope Alice gave me slides from the seat, and I bend over to pick it up. It’s not until I’m head down, ass up that I realize, Lennox is sitting directly behind me.

I stand, adjusting my skirt, and turn to face him. His hand is over his mouth as he stares at me. I can picture my face reddening as it heats. I take a seat and try to avoid looking at him.

“Are you okay?” His voice is raspy, stirring sinful thoughts about us.

I swallow hard. “Yes, I’m good.”

“Alright, I see Alice gave you everything.” He points to the package.

“She did. Thank you for arranging that.”

He checks his phone when it chimes with a message. Probably a woman. I should’ve known. He glances up before putting it away. “Sorry about that.”
