“Tickle you?” He crouches like a tiger. “You better run.” He wiggles his brows. “Now.”

“Ahhhh! Stop!” I haul ass toward the bedroom.

“I love it when we’re thinking about the same thing.”

There’s a knock at the door, Lennox holds his hand out, waiting for me to take it. He opens it with a smile.

“Hello,” I say.

“Mister Daly, Miss Turner.” A lady with dark hair greets us. “I’m Bree Ortiz, your social worker.”

“Please come in.” Lennox holds the door as I step to the side.

“You have a beautiful home.” She looks around. “I’ll go ahead and do the walkthrough, and we’ll chat after.”

“Let us know if you need anything. We’ll be at the dining table.” Lennox clasps hands with me.

“I will, thank you.” She walks toward the stairs, and we sit at the table.

Lennox leans over and kisses me. “This is the easy part.”

“I know, still nerve wracking.”

Lennox, love his heart, tries to make small talk. “Have we decided on a caterer?”

“I’m still waiting to hear from one.”

“We’re a little crazy, aren’t we?” Lennox gazes at me.

I shake my head, laying my hand on his cheek. “Yes, we are. No, we’re not.”

“Exactly.” He pokes my side. “I love it when we’re on the same level.”

“Yeah, you usually have to jump up to mine.” I widen my eyes at him, making a face.

He scoots his chair closer to me. “Now, I’m going to sit really close to you and blow in your ear every time she asks something.”

“What happens if she asks you something?” Miss Ortiz snickers.

“I get to lick him.”

She smiles wide. “I’m sorry, one of the things we’re asked to do is observe you; you are great together.”

“Thank you, it’s mainly because of me.” Lennox’s face is stone serious.

“He’s funny.”

I shake my head. “Don’t encourage him.”

“So”—she sits down—“we’ve went over your application—congratulations on the upcoming wedding by the way—and see there’s no reason to hold you up. We’ll start looking for a placement right away.”

I turn to Lennox, he’s glowing as he takes my face in his hands, kissing me. My stomach flips and a wave of nausea washes over me. I swallow, hoping to calm my nerves.

“Wonderful, thank you.” Lennox takes her hand as I work to get my bearings.

I reach for her hand. “Thank you, I can’t wait to hear from you.”

Lennox shows her out, while I sit still trying to settle my nerves. He walks over to me, feeling my head.
