“That’s hysterical!” I cackle, earning me snarl. “You, judging me, for having sex with someone I’m in a relationship with.”
“You need to be careful, Lola.” He slams his hand down on the counter. “You really need to watch your mouth.”
“Or what?” Hardy stands at my door. “Go ahead, tell her again.”
“Buddy, I don’t know who you are, but you need to mind your own damn business,” Carter seethes.
Hardy steps inside, followed by Walker. “She’s my family.”
“She’s my friend and client.” Walker leans against the wall by me.
“Lo, you okay?” Millie runs over to me.
“I’m fine. Carter was just leaving to call his attorney.”
Carter’s face reddens. “You’ll never figure it out.”
“Funny, that’s what Rossi said.” Walker smirks, and Carter’s eyes widen. “By the way, you should really consider taking her advice. Stealing papers from another company is illegal, and you need an attorney.”
“You can’t prove a thing.” Carter spins his keys on his finger.
“Hardy!” He looks at me as I toss my keys to him. “There’s a file in my car One might need to run prints on. It was stolen from my office, and I found it in Carter’s car.”
“You fucking bitch!” He steps toward me.
“Not a good idea, nor a good look.” Walker warns him with a grin.
Carter’s eyes bore through me. “You’ll regret this.”
“Somehow, I don’t think so.” I cross my arms as Carter stomps out of my condo with Hardy hot on his heels to make sure he leaves.
“He better not come back.” Millie frowns.
“I have to call Lennox.” I pick up my phone, dialing his number. There’s still no answer. “Where are they?”
“I left Lachlan at the office after we met with One and talked over the breech and the hacker,” Walker says.
“Thank you for coming.” I reach for Walker’s hand as Hardy comes back in.
“He’s gone.”
“You’re welcome.” Walker takes my hand. “I was on my way home when Reese called. I think Millie called her.”
Hardy pats his back. “I appreciate the backup, thanks.”
“We all pulled in at the same time. It was a SWAT Team.” Millie giggles.
I try Lennox’s number again. “Thank you, I appreciate you also, but I really need to find Lennox.”
“I can go with you over to the office,” Millie says.
“Let’s go. I want Lachlan to know everything until I can talk to Lennox. Hardy, my keys?”
“I’ll drop that off to One’s guy and let Lachlan know.”
“Thanks again.” I wave as we all part ways.
Millie and I make record time to the office. The elevator doesn’t move fast enough for me, so I pace as it climbs.
