“Yeah, it’s kinda her job.” I roll my eyes.
“I can hear y’all!” she shouts.
Boone kisses me one last time, easing me to the floor. He saunters over, dragging his shorts up his legs and over his fine ass. I pull my stuff on, giggling while he plays grab ass.
I open the door to find Maisyn tapping her foot on the floor. “For the love of all that’s holy, can’t y’all keep your pants on for even today?”
“What’s the fun in that?” Boone scrunches up his face before sneaking in one last kiss. His hand lands on my belly for a split second, and she starts screaming.
“OH. MY. GRACIOUS!” She flings herself all over me, dancing in a circle.
“Hush,” I admonish her, “not a word until we get the test results.”
“Please, Maisyn, for Rumor.” Boone grips my hand, and I latch on.
She nods. “Of course. Mom’s the word.”
“Make sure she gets there on time, or I might die from a panic attack.” Boone winks as he leaves for our ceremony.
“Alrighty, shower and shave.” She spins around, only to twist back. “Wash your cooter; you smell like sex.”
I stick my tongue out at her as she rushes from the room to dictate something to someone else. I drag my ass over to the dresser, getting my new panties out and the matching bra.
My phone rings, and I make a mad dash to it. Smiling like crazy, thinking it’s Boone. I glance at the number, and then do a double take. My belly sinks, and I toss the cell on the bed.
I pace the room for a few minutes, waiting to see if they leave a message. I ease over as if I’m on a covert operation. I flip it over, watching as it lights up. And there it is.
I take a deep breath, picking it up. I listen to the message and hit redial. “Hi! You just left me a message, I was wondering if I could swing by this afternoon? Okay, I’ll see you around one.”
Dropping the phone to the bed, my heart falls with it. The rest of the day passes in a flurry, people running around like they’re crazy. I wait until Maisyn and I are on the road before I mention it.
“Hey, I have one more quick stop.”
She cuts her eyes at me. “We do not have the time!”
“Yes, we need to make time.”
Her head whips around to find me sniffling. “Alright, tell me where to go.”
“The hospital, our tests are ready.” I stifle my tears and force a smile.
We make a fast pick up and are back on the road. The interstate is clear today, and when we pull up to the beach, I can’t help but smile at all of the decorations. We even got little cabanas to dress in.
I’m ridiculously jittery, knowing what I need to do, but not really wanting to. I hold the envelope in my hands, sending up a silent prayer. I turn, and my eyes dart around the room, landing on Maisyn.
“I need him.” I clutch my stomach. She leans in, hugging me.
“I’ll clear the room.” I pull her to me for one last hug. She’s been by my side our entire lives, and I would be lost without her. “People, the bride needs a minute. Move!”
I pace, waiting for him to get to me, like he said he always would. A light tap on the door makes my stomach lurch. He cracks it open without looking in.
“Kenzie, what’s going on?” I wrap his wrist as it sits on the door, yanking him in and slamming the door shut. He covers his eyes, being as cute as he is sweet. “I’m not supposed to see you.”
“Ya should’ve thought about that when your face was buried in my pussy at three this morning.” I giggle, earning me a sly as hell smirk.
“True.” He lets his arm fall, and his eyes drag down my body, eating me up. “Damn.” He leans in, stealing a kiss. “You’re breathtaking.”
He takes in every inch of the beaded fabric, low cut with thin straps. It has a sheer overlay with a shimmer thread running through it. Rumor has one on that matches mine.
