Kody lifted his gaze back to mine and searched it for a moment before he nodded. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. It does probably mean I should go, though. Before we end up doing something we’ll regret.”

“You can stay for another little bit if you’d like. I’ll put on some coffee.”

He shot me a wry smile. “Coffee isn’t what I want right now. Besides, I only came in to make sure Ben didn’t race after us and isn’t about to show up as soon as I’ve dropped you off. By now, he should’ve calmed down and he obviously didn’t come after us, so we’re good. I should go.”

He started moving to stand up, and bitter disappointment coursed through me. I didn’t want him to leave just yet. My evening had been a total disaster and not only had he dropped everything to come help me, but he’d also made me feel safe and like I could really depend on him.

Kody had never struck me as the reliable, dependable type, and that was something I wanted in a man. I knew I couldn’t have this one, but I’d be damned if knowing that about him didn’t make him that much more desirable.

I have a problem.I knew that, but I also couldn’t let him leave. Not yet.

I took his hands in my own, and in a move much more fluid and graceful than I’d thought I was capable of, I sat up on my knees, held him down, and kissed him. My lips sealed over his passionately and I released his hands to loop my arms around his neck.

He groaned into my mouth, freezing for a moment before he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me up onto his lap. One of my legs slid into place on either side of his hips, and I deepened the kiss, stroking my hands through his thick hair. We made out like we’d never get another chance to do it.

Which we may not.

Fueled by the thought, I felt compelled to make the most of this time we had together and I slowed the kiss, really paying attention to all the sensations he was eliciting from me. The gentle scrape of his daily stubble against my chin. The strong, sure sweeps of his tongue and those hot, firm hands on my hips.

Right now, in my eyes, the man could do no wrong. Not sexually, at least. Absolutely every touch, every kiss, and every low, pleasurable sound was perfect. Exactly what I needed.

This was also the first time we weren’t so rushed. We’d been aching for each other for two weeks after Kaden had found out—well, I’d been aching for him and I was pretty confident he felt the same way—and now, all I wanted was to explore his body and take my time.

An idea Kody seemed to have as well since he didn’t immediately start ripping my clothes off. Instead, we were both trailing our hands over each other’s clothes and feeling every covered nook and cranny.

Breathy moans spilled from my lips but I didn’t bother trying to hold them back. Kody was hard as steel underneath me, and I rolled my hips over him but I did it gently, not wanting all this to be over too soon.

Eventually, he picked me up against him, still kissing me as he carried me to my bedroom. Laying me down gently on the mattress, he rounded the bed and flicked on the lamp on my nightstand. Then he slowly peeled off his jacket and his T-shirt, his gaze firmly settled on mine. This was for my benefit. His stacked abs came into view. I licked my lips and lowered my hands to my waistband, shimmying out of my clothes, and he did the same with his.

We both left our underwear on though, and when he finally crawled onto the bed with me, covering my body with his own, I was annoyed but grateful for the barriers. Kody’s mouth fused with mine, his hands running up and down my sides. He kissed me like it meant something.

He never stopped touching me while we kissed, his fingertips lightly brushing across every inch of my exposed skin. I did the same to him. Sighs and moans echoed in the room, and when he finally broke the kiss, we were both breathing hard but neither of us sped things up.

Shortly after, I found out why he’d switched on the lamp. He dragged his lips down the column of my neck and to my chest. “I want to see you. Watch you.”

I shivered. “I’m onboard with that plan if I get to do the same.”

“Go for it,” he groaned, kissing a path down between my breasts to my stomach, his hands now running up and down my thighs.

My hips bucked when he sealed his mouth over me, the wetness and heat of it not dampened at all by the fact that my panties were in the way. His smooth hands spread my legs apart even further before they ran all the way up to my breasts, toying with them. His mouth left my pussy and dotted a line of kisses down my legs to my ankles.

When he’d worked his way up to my mouth, I kissed him until I was ready to beg for more, but then I took my turn to explore every inch of him with my mouth and my hands like he’d just done to me.

Kody groaned and his hips jerked occasionally, but he let me do my thing. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I realized that what we were doing right now was a lot more intimate than anything we’d done before, but I didn’t let that stop me.

All of this was super sexy and I never wanted it to end. We kept it up as long as we could before neither of us could take it anymore, and once he’d finally rolled on a condom and sank into me, his lips and hands never left my own.

“Mercedes,” he whispered into my mouth like my name was prayer. I moaned, not needing him to say any more.

We moved together, his stomach finally dipping as my insides tightened around him. Red-hot pleasure streaked through me, the orgasm made even more intense by the fact that he was right there with me, and when he finally collapsed on top of me, I closed my eyes and held him close.

“This is going to make Thanksgiving so much more awkward, isn’t it?” I commented, trying to keep it light.

Kody didn’t move to get off me, planting an open-mouthed kiss at the crook of my neck as he shrugged. “We’ll get through it. Don’t worry about this. We’ve got it.”

I doubted we really did, but in that moment, I refused to let that ruin anything. Instead, I closed my eyes and focused on the weight of him crushing me into the mattress—and how much I liked the feeling of having it there.
