Xavier closes his eyes.
I look toward the ceiling.
There it is.
Romance.
The one security threat Blackwell men never seem capable of identifying until it is already inside the perimeter.
“What girl?” I ask.
Pierre looks back at the monitor.
“He won't tell me.”
“Then what are you looking for?”
“Schedule. Classes. Clubs. Maybe her address.”
“No,” Xavier and I say together.
Pierre startles.
“Not address,” Xavier says.
“Ever,” I add.
“I wasn't going to use it.”
“You weren't going to find it,” Xavier corrects.
Pierre's brows pull together.
“But—”
“No.”
He sinks slightly into the chair.
I look at Xavier.
Xavier looks at me.
Neither of us needs to say it.
Preston Asbury has recruited our kindergarten-aged son for romantic surveillance.
I point at Xavier.
“Your family.”
“My cousin.”
“Your side.”
“You taught Pierre to bypass school firewalls.”
“For educational purposes.”
