“Your fancy finance jobs,” Linda says with an approving nod.

“Your family must be so proud of you,” Deb says. “What do they think of Will?”

I hesitate. “My father has met him. My mother hasn’t yet.” I say, being diplomatic but truthful. “My younger brother likes him.”

“Does your brother play a sport?” Ally asks from where she’s sitting at her father’s feet.

I have to bite back the laugh at the thought of Jamie doing sports.

“No, he’s more … academic.”

“Will’s academic and good at sports,” Ally says, puffing her chest out proudly.

“Yes, but not everyone’s as talented as Will.”

I didn’t think Will’s father was listening to us, but I note the sudden smile on his face.

It’s late by the time everyone leaves. Will goes up to brush his teeth and I’m about to head down to the basement when Will’s father calls me back.

“I just wanted to let you know, if you need anything, you can give me a call.”

“Oh, thank you … like what?”

“I don’t know.” He rubs the scruff on his chin. “Fatherly advice, that sort of thing. I know you have your own dad, but….”

I bite the inside of my lip. For some reason, I feel like I’m going to burst into tears.

“Thank you,” I manage eventually.

“You’re welcome. Just be good to my boy and you’ll always be welcome in this family, do you hear?”

“Yes, sir.”

I almost fall asleep waiting for Will to tip toe down the basement stairs. But the second I hear his feet on the carpet, I perk up and throw the blanket back for him.

“God, I’ve waited all day to get you alone like this.”

“You had me alone this morning before we left,” he says. His breath minty and hot on my face.

“Mm, stop talking and take off your clothes.”

He hesitates.

“What’s wrong?” My hands pause on his chest.

Will winces. “Nothing, just thinking about my parents upstairs.”

“We don’t have to—”

“Hey, I didn’t say I don’t want to.” He puts a hand over mine and guides it over his pec. He groans when I play with his nipple, feeling it pebble under my fingers.

I start kissing his neck, grinding slowly against him. “We can be quiet, nice and slow and quiet.”

He hums against my hair.

“You like it like that, don’t you?”

“No, I like making you scream.”
