He opened the door just wide enough to slip inside. The sitting room was empty, and so was the kitchen area. His gaze slid automatically to the bedroom, and there she was, leaning against the door frame, clad in nothing more than the lace and thin straps of a black garter belt.

Rocco’s hungry gaze took in the glorious, golden length of her legs, her smooth mound, flat belly and high breasts. He blew out a deep breath. “Don’t you think you’re a little overdressed for this evening?”

Sasha gave a casual shrug and examined her nails. “You’re a little out of touch with the latest fashion trends. Don’t you know this is the outfit to be seen in on the red carpet this season?”

As long as he was the only one lined up to see her in it, Rocco was fine with that. “So what are you wearing?”

She sighed. “You want to help me choose something? I spent so much time dealing with Linzi’s outfit that I haven’t yet made a final decision about my own.”

Rocco doubted that was entirely true. “You know I’m no fashion expert.” Like a lot of men, which probably explained the invention of the tux. It was difficult to go wrong with black and white.

“Irrelevant. I need another pair of eyes. You’re it.”

As missions went, he’d had worse.

Sasha had pulled a number of gowns out of her walk-in closet and hung them up around her bedroom. Several pairs of elegant footwear were arranged along one wall. Even Rocco could identify which ones went with which outfit. His eyes, however, were mainly on Sasha. He could never get enough of her. Even with her back to him, she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen in his entire misbegotten life. He wanted nothing more than to stand right behind her and pull her back against him, so she’d be in no doubt about how she affected him. Then he’d take her to bed and make love to her until all she could do was fall asleep in his arms. He loved watching over her then, knowing she’d found peace with him.

Knowing she was his to protect, in a way that had nothing to do with his work.

All he had to figure out was how to tell her… and how to deal with the consequences.

Instead of doing any of that, he took a deep breath and cleared his throat in an effort to get his concentration back where it should be. “You go to a lot of these events?”

“Only when Linzi’s invited, and even then, only when the invitation includes sufficient numbers. Truth is, I’d much prefer to stay back here and spend the night with a good book.”

Rocco raised an eyebrow. “A book?”

“Did I say book?” Sasha gave him a sultry look over her shoulder. “I meant to say, I’d much rather stay back here and spend the night having a really good f—”

“Ms. Morgan, do you talk to your mother with that mouth?” Rocco folded his arms and gave her a stern look. Her smile might have been innocent, but the thoughts behind it matched his, sin for sin.

She feigned a dramatic sigh. “Oh, well. I suppose I’ll just have to keep on getting ready, then.”

And everything would have been fine, but for the saucy wiggle of her hips that tipped Rocco over the edge of frustration. He strode forward, spun her around to face him, and framed her face with his palms. Her gaze flared with the same desire that was riding him, and with no thought for the consequences, he moved into the perfect position to deliver a soul-deep kiss.

“My lipstick.”

Her husky whisper sent another surge of blood to his dick. “Don’t worry—the color suits me.”

It was a totally asinine comment but it served the purpose of dialing back the lust that was in danger of making them late. Sasha’s silent laughter made her whole body shake.

“You idiot,” she scolded without a hint of ill humor. “Now I have to do my makeup again.”

“You look fine to me—more than fine.”

Sasha rolled her eyes. “Only a man would say that. While I repair the damage, you look at those dresses and see which is the most suitable for tonight.”

“Still not a fashion expert!” he called after her as she disappeared toward the bathroom. He’d give anything to follow her, drag her under the shower, and… Yeah, washing her back didn’t figure highly on the list of what he’d like to do then.

Rocco turned his attention to the dresses. Five of them. Different styles and different colors. The only thing they had in common was the length—which did not earn his approval. Legs like Sasha’s deserved to be shown off.

Or maybe not. He was absolutely not in favor of any man leering at her—something he’d probably better keep to himself if he wanted to hold on to his balls. Going all out caveman on that gorgeous, spirited woman, no matter how much he wanted to, would not earn him any brownie points.

So… Dresses. Each of them would be amazing on her, but that wasn’t why she was asking for his input. He removed the comms pack from his jacket pocket and set it to one side. His own rig had been easy to put on, but female fashion brought its own complications to the game.

Rocco was still considering the gowns when Sasha emerged from the bathroom, laid her arm on his shoulder as a rest for her chin, and blew on his ear before kissing it. “So, which one?”

“You’ll look incredible in any of them. Not as good as you look right now, though.”
