“Doesn’t sound too difficult. And you get a free trip out of it,” Libby said.
“And clothes!” Summer added, waving Travis’s American Express in the air.
Harper nodded. “Alright, alright. We’ll go get a few things. I’ll go on the trip.”
“I knew you’d help me out,” Travis said, grinning as he started his breakfast. “Eat up, y’all. It’ll get cold.”

“Sonofabitch,” Clay cursed under his breath as he and Cruz left their apartment early the next morning.
“What?” Cruz asked as he paused just a few steps away and hoisted his backpack up onto his shoulder.
“I forgot to charge my phone. It died.”
“So charge it later. No big deal.”
“Yeah, but I promised to let Harper know if I was leaving last night or this morning.”
“I’m sure she’ll understand. Besides she’s just a friend, right?” Cruz asked.
Clay shot him a ‘stay out of my shit’ kind of look, as he pulled the door closed and made sure it was locked before the two of them headed off to their respective classes.
“I haven’t heard anything from Sebastian, but then again, I’m not sure when my phone died. He could have tried to call us,” Clay said.
“He didn’t call me,” Cruz said.
“I’m sure we’ll hear from him today, one way or another.”
When they reached the outside commons area of the student union building, Clay went one way, Cruz headed another. “Later,” they both said.
They were about twenty feet apart when Clay heard Cruz call his name. He turned around and looked at Cruz.
“Email her, dude! You got her email address?”
Clay laughed. “Yep! Thanks for reminding me. I’ll do that before class starts.”
Cruz grinned at him and rushed away.
Clay got settled in his class, took out his laptop and pulled up his email app.
“Hey, sorry I’m doing this this morning instead of last night, but I left last night to get back to school.
I’m here now, and sitting in class. Hug the horses for me. Hang in there, and I’ll see you soon. Lot’s
of tests coming at the end of next week and the week after. Finals for the semester. I might be out
of pocket studying, but I’ll let you know when I get home. If you need something, call. Except today,
my phone is dead. Forgot to charge it.
Take care of you, Harper. Miss you.
Clay”
He hit send, then smiled to himself, knowing he’d managed to keep his promise and let her know he’d left last night, though it was a little late. Now… time to crackdown on the books and get ready for the last finals he’d ever take.
