Hurt like no other crossed Kilian’s face, but he nodded. “I will.”
The moment they left, I rushed and hugged him to my chest. “What did he mean?”
“Not much, my heart. Shall we go to bed?”
I swallowed hard. “If I tell you what I think touched me, would you tell me what he meant?”
His eyes raised to me again, more hurt flashing through the vivid grey. “Do you want to tell me?”
“I want to know what he meant.”
“You don’t have to tell me by force, only when you are ready. I’ll tell you what he meant though it doesn’t matter much.” He picked me up and laid me on the bed before following after and tucking me to his chest. “Silence. Darkness. Quiet. My magic feeds on those. Thrives when I’ve mastered those. Remember what I told you before how I trained it? How my father used to train me?”
I pushed back from him, hurt filling and tipping over my chest. “He didn’t…he didn't mean—”
“They helped, Snow, whether they were wrong or not.”
I rose to my knees. “You won’t do that. Promise me. Kil, promise me.”
His hand rose to my face. “Alright, my heart. I promise you. Come here, let me hold you.”
Chapter twenty
Black Bishop to G4
Kilian
Set on not delaying action, she’d spent the whole day down at the training courts, sweating her much thinned body off along with Caiden who had been anything but a gentle teacher with her. No matter the threatening looks I had sent his way, he had not faltered from battering her up as if she was a ragdoll.
He was angry at her—so goddamn angry.
But he was hurt, too, and because of that, I grit my teeth, dug my feet in the rubble and endured from ripping out his heart with my hands.
Something from the night before had caused the sudden change in her. Reminding me much of the time back in Isjord. Reminding me that I was useless and helpless to her. She wouldn’t tell me anything and I had a vivid imagination that was thinly separating me from marching inside Tenebrose again. To kill.
“That’s enough,” I barked when Caiden landed another hard punch on her stomach.
He shot me an unamused look over his shoulder. “Will you be there to coach Silas or any of his pets to hit her gently?”
“You are not training her, you are hurting her.”
“She needs to get familiar with pain.”
This fucker was trying to mess with me, not her. I shot up from my seat and stalked to him. “You know damn well—”
“Boys,” Snow said, panting from where she laid on the ground. “I swear, if you start measuring whose cock is bigger, I’m going to bolt myself right in front of a hungry bear and just lay there until it has licked up all my cartilages. Might even thank it.”
When I reached to help her up, Caiden batted my hand away. “She can get up by herself.”
And that was it. I punched him.
Snow shot up and came between us, her hands resting on my chest. “Darling, it is fine.”
“See,” Caiden said, wiping blood from his mouth. “She can get up.”
“I really want to see you get up after I’m gone with you.”
Snow’s fingers were gentle on me, she pulled my face down to hers and kissed me. “What is it?”
