I can't have that. Not again. Not when there's so much on the line.

So I squeeze her hand harder, pulling her nearer to me.

"I'm going to kiss you now, Alyssa," I say. "And you're going to let me because I think that deep down, if you weren't holding back because you were worried that I was going to hurt you, you would admit to yourself that you want this, too. You feel the same damn way, and want the same damn things.”

“Jack - ” she begins to launch another protest but I can’t fucking hear it. Not again, not anymore. What’s done is done. There’s a piece of me growing inside of her, getting bigger every day. And I’m glad about it. Today is the start of forever. I won’t go another day without this woman, not as long as my heart is still beating.

My mouth collides with hers and she yields beneath me, melting against my firm lips. I part them with my tongue and slide mine between her lips, caressing her as I pull her across the bench seat, drawing her as close to me as it’s possible for two people to be.

I break away abruptly when I feel my cock straining painfully against the zipper of my jeans.

“What’s wrong?” Alyssa asks.

“Nothing,” I breathe. “For once, absolutely nothing is wrong. Let’s go inside, baby. I need you.”

CHAPTER 15

ALYSSA

We’ve been here before. Sweaty, needy, naked on his bed.

But even though so much is the same, it’s also so different. He strips my clothing off like he does’t want to break me, kissing down my torso with the reverence you might reserve for worship as he reaches my belly button and then the space just below, the small bump that grows larger and harder with every passing day.

“Mine,” he whispers, dragging his lips down the tender skin until his mouth is hovering just above my mound. He open my legs and flicks his tongue over my slick entrance. I’m soaking wet already, my body responding to this mountain man in a way it doesn’t for any other.

This is why it was so impossible to forget him. Because sex with Jack wasn’t just sex. He made it mean so much more. Made it special for me, took the time to check in with me and make sure that I was getting my needs met — multiple times — before he ever allowed himself to finish.

I feel safe with this man, I realize as his tongue drags firm, hot circles around my entrance, caressing my clit periodically as his calloused hands knead my breasts.

I feel safe.

Safer than Iv’e ever felt with anyone else in the world.

That’s why, even before I found out I was pregnant, I fantasized about forever with him.

That’s why I was so sad when my so-called meaningless one night stand never called me the next day.

It’s because with him, all of the anxiety disappears. I get to simply be a woman in the presence of a strong, capable man. A man who would protect me. A man who would take the utmost care with me.

I think of how he asked if I was afraid he’d hurt me. He meant physically. What a wild thing to worry about. He’s large and powerful, his body moving with explosive strength and careful capability, but I know he’d never use that power to hurt me.

He’d use it to bring me pleasure.

I climax quickly, but he’s not done yet. Just like the night we met, he lets me come down from the high only briefly before touching me again, this time inserting a finger inside of me.

“Is this okay?” he murmurs. “Even with your condition?”

I nearly laugh as he describes my pregnancy as my condition. His careful consideration is touching, making something tender in my chest call out for him with need.

“Just be gentle,” I tell him. “Not because of the pregnancy. It’s just been a while.”

His eyes seem to glow with the acknowledgment that there’s been nobody else since the night we were together. Of course there hasn’t been. After our night, I couldn’t feel anything for another man. Couldn’t want sex with anyone else, because I knew already that it would be pointless.

Nothing compares to him.

His fingers stretch me gradually, gently, and I need him inside of me.

“Please,” I whisper. “Fuck me, Jack. Please.”
