“We enter through the drainage system.”

Mac shakes his head. “That channel floods.”

“It isn’t raining.”

“It did yesterday.”

“Then we get wet.”

Cobra grins. “I like it.”

“You like explosives,” Fathom says.

“I can like two things.”

Fathom’s tablet sounds again.

Two vehicles appear on the ridge behind us.

Not Graves’s mercenaries.

Shadow Division’s reserve team.

Shark and Falcon step out with weapons and medical supplies. They brought three armored SUVs with unregistered plates.

Rook grips Shark’s forearm.

“Good timing.”

“We heard you started a war without us,” Shark says.

Cobra shakes his head. “Barely a disagreement.”

Falcon looks at Mac. “He with us?”

“No,” Rook answers. “But he’s useful.”

Mac gives a weary nod. “That may be the nicest thing anyone has said about me today.”

We load the evidence into the center vehicle.

Evie stops me before I climb into the lead SUV.

“Your bandage is soaked through.”

“We need to move.”

“You need to remain conscious.”

She opens the medical kit and reinforces the dressing around my ribs.

Her fingers are gentle.

Her expression isn’t.

“You keep putting yourself between me and bullets.”

“That’s the job.”
