I shake my head. “No. I’m serious. It’s time I move on to something else.”

His smirk surprises me.

“I should’ve known this was coming. I spent the first year you worked for me just waiting for you to give me your two weeks. By the second year, I forgot to be worried about it. What are you going to do next?”

He doesn’t sound angry about it which relieves me.

“I, well …” I laugh. “Jen and Max think I need to pursue becoming an agent.”

His brows spike. “Motorsport?”

I nod.

“That’s perfect.”

I take a step back due to how enthusiastically he says this.

“You agree with them?”

“Of course I do. I tell you all of the time you should be my agent. Hell, if I didn’t have a contract with Norm’s firm I would’ve asked you a long time ago.”

I’d dismissed it when he made those comments, not putting much thought into it.

“Norm’s been your agent since you turned pro.”

Travis has been pro since he was nineteen years old.

“I know, and he’s done a hell of a job. I trust him but you’re my third. Why do you think I had you work so closely with him? What you did for me went well above and beyond typical assistant duties.”

Travis snaps as if just remembering. “Hey, speaking of, Luca Taylor finally reached out last week. He wants me to represent his company.

“He apologized for taking so long to get back to me on the matter. Well, he said as much to Norm who passed the message along. But he told him that the reason he ultimately chose me to be the face of his suits is because you advocated so hard on my behalf the night of the masquerade ball. Said you did your research and came at him from an angle most of the people he encounters would’ve never touched. He was impressed.”

“Congratulations.”

“To me? You did the work. Don’t worry, I already told Norm that the normal twenty percent of that deal that would go to him will be halved so the other half will go to you.

“Don’t look surprised. You’re the biggest reason I landed the deal. Did you not just hear the praise Luca lavished on you?”

I nod. “I heard.” I laugh when Travis pulls me into a hug.

“Who’re you looking at as your first athlete? Let me guess, Bree Walters.”

I laugh again. “Am I that obvious?”

“Yes. Plus, Norm told me how you dressed him and a couple of other agents down when they tried to downplay her at the beginning of the season.”

“And I was right.” I point at him. “Look at how she’s performed this season so far. Only three more races for her to go and I bet you she pulls out the win.”

Formula 2 didn’t race in the Americas like Formula 1, so they had fewer races throughout the season.

“See?” Travis says, as if I just proved a point. “Look at how excited you get talking about her. And rumor has it she’s on the outs with her current agent.”

I’ve heard that, too. “He’s not doing what he needs for her. There’s no reason she shouldn’t already be signed with an F1 team. Whether she wins the championship or not this year … which she will,” I say adamantly. “Her performance over the past couple of years has earned her a spot on the main grid.”

Travis steps back.

“Maybe she needs to hear that from you.”
