It hadn’t taken long to realize the satellite hadn’t caught anything but the movement of clouds.

Leila and Jasmine had disappeared.

And he had no idea where to find them.

He’d already sent the rest of the phone numbers from Waleed Shehab’s laptop to headquarters—and Alyssa—to try to find locations.

Nothing, nothing, nothing.

No leads. No sightings. Nothing.

While his team searched the hotel room for some indication of where Shehab might’ve taken them, Michael studied a map of the island. There weren’t that many options.

Twenty minutes had passed—twenty long minutes while Leila and Jasmine moved farther and farther away—when his cell rang. Bryan’s number displayed on his screen. He barked into the phone, “What!”

“I saw them.” Bryan was huffing. “They passed the marina and turned on a road beside it. There’re a bunch of buildings. I can’t tell exactly where they went. I’m walking that direction now.”

Hope had Michael’s heart thumping. “You sure it was them?”

“Identical twins. One of the women screamed. She was looking at me. It was them.”

“She screamed? So they know you saw them? The terrorists?”

“I played it cool.”

“Okay, good.” Who knew what Bryan had done—or given away—in that moment. Or if Leila and Jasmine had given it away. He couldn’t count on the element of surprise. “Don’t get closer. And stay on the line. Calling it in.” He tapped his earpiece. “Bryan’s got ’em. They’re near the marina. I’m going.”

“Hold up.” Brock, of course.

“I won’t engage. I’ll just see what’s going on.”

He shifted into drive, ready to gun the car back toward where they’d left Bryan.

But he didn’t.

Brock hadn’t said no. He’d just told him to wait. Not exactly Michael’s strong suit.

Going it alone hadn’t worked. He needed his team. “Come on, Brock. We need to know—”

“Report what you see,” Brock said. “Do not engage.”

“Yessir.” He tapped the earpiece to silence his end. “I’m on my way,” he told Bryan. “Send me a pin, and then go back to the café. Better yet, get an Uber to the airport and wait with Derrick, on the plane.”

Where his brothers would be safe.

His phone dinged with the location, and he aimed toward it.

“You sure you won’t need my help?” Bryan asked.

Not that he wouldn’t take all the help he could get, but he wasn’t putting Bryan in danger. “We got it. Thank you. I can’t even…” Emotion welled in his throat. He waited until it passed. “Thank you.”

“Anytime. Be careful.”

Michael ended the call.

One minute later, he squealed around a corner onto the four-lane road that hugged the coast. He passed Bryan, who was walking on the sidewalk, slowly. Across the street, a narrow road led to a couple of buildings all tucked up beside each other. Behind them, nothing but churning sea.

He continued past a small parking lot in front of a hotel.
