“We’ll be ready, so if you’re sure you wish to come with us, make sure you’re ready. Or you can tell me how to get to this portal and we’ll make our way without you.” I take Nyx’s hand and let him lead me back to our room. Once inside, I sit in one of the chairs and watch him pace. I don’t think I’ve seen him so flustered before, and I can’t help the feeling he’s not telling me everything. He can’t be this upset just because we’re going to use a portal to travel.

“I don’t like this. Something just doesn’t feel right.” Nyx pauses, running his hands through his hair.

“What do you mean?”

“It’s odd. I’ve never heard of there being portals in Cloudrum for the Sorcerers to use, and I don’t know if I really trust Athalda. This whole plan just feels rushed, and I don’t like it.”

“Hey, try to relax. We only have a few hours until morning, and your pacing is making me anxious. I’m already stressed out about all of this. I need you to keep it together. You’re always the calm one.”

Nyx stops pacing, and he dons a mischievous smile. He moves around the chairs, coming up behind me.

“Where are you going?”

“I want to make you feel good and take your mind off things. You’re right. I don’t want you to stress. I just want to enjoy being with you right now.”

He moves behind me and starts massaging my shoulders. I moan and turn my neck, giving him more access as he works the muscles in my back. I love the way he touches me. My body burns to feel him inside me again. He takes his time rubbing my shoulders and bends to place kisses up and down my neck. He nibbles on my earlobe, and I squirm.

“Feeling less stressed?” he asks while moving around the chair and kneeling in front of me.

“A little.” I smile at him shyly.

“Sounds like I need to try harder at relieving your stress,” he says, his voice thick. He starts pulling off my pants.

“What are you doing?” I ask, tipping my butt up so he can pull my pants all the way down.

“Tasting you.” His voice is ruff, and his eyes are glowing slightly now.

He’s looking at me like he wants to devour me. I clench my thighs together in anticipation. He places his warm hands on my legs, and the callouses tickle my skin as he strokes me up and down before gently tugging my legs apart. Once he spreads my legs, he looks me over thoroughly, licking his lips. My face turns a million shades of red, and a shiver spreads through my body.

He runs his hands back up my legs and between my thighs. He rubs my center, and a soft sigh escapes my mouth. He replaces his fingers with his mouth, then his tongue, eliciting sounds from me that make me momentarily wonder how thick the walls are. I hope Athalda can’t hear us. I dig my hands into the cushions of the chair, my heart racing. The way he works his tongue sends sensations shattering through my body. It’s almost too much to take. I throw my head back and tangle my hands in his hair, writhing from his touch. His mouth. His tongue.

“Stop, wait,” I breathe.

“What’s wrong?” His eyes shoot up to mine.

“Take me to the bed,” I demand.

He doesn’t ask any more questions. He scoops me up, pulling the blankets back and laying me down on the pillows. I pull my sweater off over my head and lie back, letting him take in my body. He doesn’t take his eyes off me while he takes off his clothes and slowly climbs on top of me. I trail my hands down his body, feeling his chest and his racing heart, then I lower my fingers to the taut muscles of his stomach. He watches me as I explore his body. I take his thick length in my hand and begin stroking him, sending a shudder through him. I continue exploring his body, feeling his arms and the muscles. I want them wrapped around me.

Gods, I can’t get enough of this man. I don’t know what I did to deserve him. I don’t know how he can look at me with those glowing eyes like I mean the world to him. I wish I never slept with Aidan. I wish I’d saved myself. I wish my first time had been with someone I love—with Nyx. I can’t help thinking about it, and I wonder if it bothers him that I’ve been with another. Surely he’s had plenty of women in his bed before me. Gods, am I just realizing that I think I love Nyx? I think I’m in love with him.

He watches me silently as I work my hands across his body and then back to his face, caressing his jaw and pulling him to me. He kisses the tip of my nose then my lips. His kiss is warm and gentle as he uses his tongue to coax my mouth to open for him. I wonder if he can sense what I’m feeling or what I’m thinking. I wonder if Nyx loves me. He nibbles on my bottom lip, and I can’t focus on anything else. I feel the tip of his cock press against my slick warmth, causing the muscles in my stomach to coil with anticipation. Once his tongue finds mine, he thrusts inside me, causing my breath to get lost in his. He wraps one arm around me and holds my hip in place with the other. I move my hips up to meet his thrusts and let my body move off instinct as I get lost in him.

His hand finds its way back to my center, and he starts to rub my flesh there while thrusting slow and deep inside me. I moan and cry out, squirming beneath him and digging my nails into his back.

“Come for me, baby. I want to feel you,” Nyx whispers, and my body responds.

I squeeze my eyes shut and bite down on my lower lip as release finds me. My body shatters beneath him in waves of pleasure. I slowly ease my hands from his back and open my eyes to find Nyx staring down at me. Once I meet his gaze, he starts thrusting inside me again fast and hard, losing himself in me. He lets out a moan, and I feel his release twitch deep inside me.

He lowers himself back down close to me, holding his weight with his arms and rests his forehead to mine. We stay like that for a few minutes with him seated inside me while we both catch our breaths and our bodies stop shuddering.

“Less stressed now?” he teases.

“Yes.” I giggle as he pulls out of me and falls onto his back, pulling me close to him.

Chapter Thirty-Five

“Are we going to wait for Athalda?”
