“Not to me,” I shrugged, flicking a hand towards the cars to tell them to hurry up.

If Hunter had taken off, then I had to make sure the guys got back safely. It was my job, despite wanting to chase after Hunter.

They thankfully didn’t argue, getting in their cars and driving towards Mount Mercer with me bringing up the rear.

I wasn’t surprised to find Tyler sitting at the bar when we arrived at the warehouse, a grin on his face.

“There you are. Come drink with me!” he insisted, huffing out a breath when I put him in a headlock and jabbed him in the stomach lightly.

“Some of us are working, you walking bank account.”

“I’ll pay you to take the day off.”

“The money isn’t the issue. We don’t get that privilege here,” I grunted, stealing his drink and downing it. “Hunt in the office?”

“He went downstairs. Did something happen? He looked pissed off when he walked in,” he said curiously, and I winced.

“He’s fine. We tried bargaining with Razor for Rory’s safety and nothing came of it. He’s just mad. You stay up here while I check on him.”

“I’ll make you a drink.”

“Make two,” I stated before heading down to the basement, finding Hunter beating the hell out of our latest problem.

“I need him alive, you know?” I said dryly, leaning back against the wall and crossing my arms while I watched him. He was zoned out, his shirt off and sweat mixing with droplets of blood as it ran down his chest. “Hunt, rein it in, brother.”

He ignored me, so I blew out an annoyed breath and walked towards him, grabbing his shoulder to pull him back and dodging the fist that he threw at me. I’d punched him plenty of times while blacked out, so it would have been my karma if he hit me.

“Hey!” I snapped, clarity filling his eyes as he realized it was me.

“Shit, sorry,” he mumbled, almost sounding confused as he looked back at the guy I was supposed to question later. I was pretty sure he’d need a few days before being able to talk properly.

“Why’d you take off like that? I understand you’re dealing with shit, but the guys are seeing you solely focusing on Rory. We have work to do, and they need to see you pulling your weight too.”

“I’m running out of time. She’s going to go on trial soon, and I need to get her the fuck out, but once I do, she’s got a target on her head. I knew there was a slim chance of Razor agreeing to let her go, but I really had hoped that he would,” he replied, holding my gaze. “I need to find that fucking witness, Mark.”

“Leave it to me. The guys need to see you leading, so you handle shit here, and I’ll go and track down the witness,” I offered, his eyes narrowing.

“You’ve already looked.”

“I’ll bribe some people.”

“You know I don’t like that shit,” he grumbled, concern in his eyes at knowing how I intended on bribing them. “No one should pimp themselves out for information.”

“Not against their will, but I don’t give a shit about busting a nut to get answers.” I was good at seducing people, so I might as well use it to my advantage.

“Fine, but bail if you need to. I’ll break into the station myself if I really have to,” he replied with a nod.

I headed back upstairs to tell Tyler to stay put, finding him drinking with Faris. At least some of the guys were getting used to him being around.

“I’ve got to bounce,” I said as I pointed at Faris. “Look after my buddy for me.”

“Can I drink and take the rest of the day off?” Faris asked skeptically, but Tyler frowned.

“You’re leaving again?”

“You want your girl back out? Then I have things to do,” I stated, patting his shoulder. “And yes, Faris. You can get drunk with Ty all afternoon. Have fun.”

Faris grinned, more than happy to be on babysitting duty, letting me leave without an argument.
