“Stop fucking fighting me, baby,” he murmured, sliding inside again.

“You’re never there, but the day I stop calling, you’ll wonder why like it’s a big surprise,” I forced out, angry tears burning my eyes. “Help me look. Please. I know he’s here somewhere.”

“I’m not running around in the dark unless we have a clue of his whereabouts.”

“Then get off me so I can keep looking by myself. Go on, leave,” I huffed, pushing at him. “Leave!”

The fresh air was making me feel drunk, the rain completely soaking my clothes and causing me to shiver.

“I’ll never leave you. Why don’t you see that?” he whispered, the hand on my throat loosening as he kissed me. He barely reacted when I smacked the side of his head, the tears falling as some of the anger melted away.

“He’s dead because of Max. I have to find him, Skeet,” I choked out, Skeeter not replying before someone barreled into him, knocking him away from me.

I panicked, if the Soldiers or the Kings were here, we could have been surrounded with no backup.

Instead, I focused on his attacker, confused to find Diesel grappling with him on the ground.

“Get away from her!” Diesel barked, managing to punch him in the face as Skeeter tried to block the hit.

“Jesus Christ, get off me,” Skeeter gritted out, trying to shove him back. He’d lost it though, and I was pretty sure he was blacked out in his rage. “Diesel!”

They wrestled until Diesel pulled back, already pulling his jacket off to cover me.

“Are you okay?” he asked, and I blinked at him in confusion.

“Of course I am.”

“Did he hurt you?”

“What?” I asked, flicking my gaze to Skeeter to find him picking himself up from the ground and fixing his pants. He looked irritated, but didn’t seem to want to beat the hell out of him for it.

I slapped at Diesel’s hands as he tried to fix my pants for me, making me realize I was standing in front of him with them still around my knees.

“I’ve got it,” I muttered, fixing them and pushing his jacket back at him. “Why did you do that?”

“You told him to stop,” he answered, now the one confused. “I heard you.”

“It’s fine,” Skeeter said sharply, drawing my attention. “He’s not really here, he’s back there.”

“Fuck you. I’m right in front of you,” Diesel bit out, motioning to me. “I don’t care if you’re together or not. She said to leave her alone.”

“D, it’s fine,” I murmured, putting a hand on his arm to calm him. “Skeet wouldn’t hurt me like that.”

“I heard you,” he repeated, reaching out to wipe my cheeks. “And you’re crying.”

“I’m just mad at him,” I explained, making Skeeter snort.

“She pretends she’s mad. She just likes to fight while we fuck, I’m sure of it.”

The tension bled from Diesel as embarrassment took over, and he took a step back from me.

“Oh. Sorry. I thought— never mind.”

Skeeter’s phone rang and he growled, pulling it from his pocket and pressing it to his ear.

“What? Shit, thanks. I’ll be there in five,” he said before hanging up. “I need to go. Samuel’s been shot. Can you—”

“I’ve got her,” Diesel answered, not seeming surprised by the shooting, and I wiped rain from my face as I watched Skeeter jog towards the McLaren, where it was parked further up the road.
