“Honestly? Causing trouble is my only reason.”

“Figures. You need to leave. This back and forth bullshit with us is dangerous. I told you I’d let you know if I found Max, so go away,” I growled, his brow creasing.

“Skeet didn’t tell you?”

“Tell me what?”

“I got my hands on him the other day. He was beaten pretty good. Asshole escaped before I could hand him over to you though.”

“Wait, you had Max? And Skeet knew?” I asked slowly, his forearm bracing above me as he leaned closer.

“Man, he really likes to keep secrets, doesn’t he? You can always trust me to tell you the truth.”

“What other secrets is he keeping?” I demanded, jabbing a finger against his chest. “And how the fuck did Max escape?”

“I’m not sure about his secrets, you’ll have to ask him. I honestly have no idea how Max escaped. He was beaten pretty badly, and I had him in a cell. Cameras went down, so we think someone helped him. My guys were all accounted for, so it was someone on the outside,” he hummed, making me frown.

“Like who? The Soldiers?”

“Maybe. They’re still licking their wounds from when Rage got them, as well as when you took shots at them.”

“Would Rage help him?”

“Only if it benefited him. I highly doubt Max has anything Rage would want. I’ll keep looking for him, so answer if I call you. I won’t hold him for long if you ignore me,” he warned.

He thankfully took a step back, leaning back on his heels and crossing his arms.

“What did you do to him?” I asked curiously, the need to know burning inside me. “Did you just punch him, or torture him?”

A sinister smirk took over his face, his hair falling over his eyes.

“I can do you one better and show you. Want to see it?”

“Show me,” I insisted, reaching out to fist the front of his shirt that stuck out of his opened jacket, and he grinned as he pulled his phone out of his pocket, pressing a few things before turning it to show me.

Max was tied to a chair in the middle of a cell, a gag in his mouth as he tried yelling from behind it. A shirtless Hunter circled him, and I reached for the phone, taking it from his hands to turn the volume up so I could hear them.

“Did you think you could get away with it? Fuck over a bunch of crews and run?” Hunter asked lazily, but there was a dangerous tone in his voice that gave me chills. “Are you just offering your own fucking kid up as payment for all of them?”

He pulled the gag from Max’s mouth, the piece of shit sputtering as if he’d been deprived of oxygen.

“Razor’s more than happy with the trade. It’s not my fault you didn’t want her. I can’t really blame you though, she’s not that good to look at. Runs her mouth too much too,” Max spat, grunting as Hunter punched him in the mouth.

“You need to get your eyes checked, old man. Aurora’s a fucking goddess, and she doesn’t run her mouth, she stands up for herself because no one else ever stood by her. I really can’t wait for the day that she gets to bleed the life right out of you. You have no idea the strength in that girl.”

My face heated slightly from his compliments, and I could feel his gaze on me. I didn’t dare look up, keeping my attention on the screen.

“Goddess? She’s used up trash. She’s Razor’s now, so if you want her, you’ll have to strike a deal with him. You could probably have her for the right price once he’s done playing with her,” Max continued, and Hunter snapped.

He beat the hell out of him, the chair falling back and landing on the ground. Max’s head bounced off the floor, but Hunter didn’t stop wailing on him until Marco appeared in the camera view and pulled him away.

It took him a bit to pull him off too, Hunter’s legs kicking at Max to try and land a final blow.

Blood was on the floor as Max choked on it, satisfaction hitting me at knowing he was nursing those wounds somewhere.

I rewound it a little to watch some of it again, glancing up when I heard Skeeter’s voice.

“What the fuck are you doing?”
