I shoot her a dirty look. “Trust me, I wanted to. Hell, I might still if we find out it really is him.”
“Smoke’s going to be pissed,” Jagger adds.
He’s not wrong. Smoke fucking hates it when people stick their noses in our business where it doesn’t belong. He hates people who play dirty even more.
“He won’t get away with this. I can promise you that,” I tell them darkly.
Blaine doesn’t know it yet, but he fucked with the wrong club not once but twice. By doing so, he just sealed his fate.
I can only hope that Delaney will still want me by the time this is all said and done.
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Delaney
Work has been good lately or at least since the encounter with Connor’s parents. The kids have been on their best behavior. No one has had any potty accidents. There was some tension between a couple of the girls, but that seems to have resolved too.
It is all so mundane, and I am loving it. I’m not stressed at all anymore.
I have Tank to thank for that. Even when things that usually would annoy me happen, I brush it off. How can I be upset when I am having orgasms on the regular?
Tank comes by most nights. I order him around until we both come, then he cuddles me while I sleep.
I love that I can control him yet feel completely content with him at the same time. It’s actually frightening how comfortable I have become. I don’t know if I will be able to sleep without him anymore. I’ve grown so used to him that the thought of him not being there is like a rock in my stomach.
That’s why I plan to talk to him tonight. He needs to know that my feelings have changed. It’s not fair of me to keep seeing him when I know I’ll end up heartbroken when he leaves.
Getting out of my car, I’m resolved in my mission. It’s not until I get to the door that an eerie feeling settles on me.
I slide my key into the deadbolt, but it doesn’t turn. Because it’s already unlocked.
I never leave it unlocked.
My heart gallops in my chest as I pull my keys from the door, running back to my car. I dial Tank first, unsure what to do.
“Laney?” he answers, surprised.
“I think someone has been in my house,” I manage to breathe out through my panic.
“Shh. Breathe. I will be there in five. Call the cops.”
“Okay.”
I hang up with him, dialing the police. The woman on the phone promises to stay on with me until the cops get there, but then I hear his motorcycle.
“My boyfriend is here. He can wait with me,” I tell the woman.
“Okay, but don’t go inside.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I hang up, getting out of my car as he climbs off his bike. I rush him, crushing him in a hug as my body starts to shake.
Now that he is here, I feel safe. Like nothing can touch me.
“Shh, Laney. I’ve got you.”
I pull back and look up at him. He wipes my face, which makes me realize I’ve been crying.
