“I’m not telling you shit,” he spits.
Raising my hand, I tap him on the throat. Tap, I don’t hit him like I want, just lightly touch, but by his reaction, you would think I fatally wounded him.
“Are you sure this dude’s capable of being a leader?” Bear asks as he marches two guys toward me.
“I don’t think he could lead his way out of a wet paper bag, but Hanks said one of the guys’ names was Blaine.” I shrug.
We circle the guys up, and Jagger runs to bring the van over to us so we can load them up. Thirty minutes later, we pull up to the pig farm in Jay and find Smoke, Gunner, and Mac all waiting, arms crossed.
“How did it go?” Smoke asks as we shut off the bikes.
“Successful,” I tell him.
As Jagger comes to a stop, we walk to his door.
“Anyone talk?” Mac asks.
Jagger shakes his head. “Nothing important at least. One guy was trying to figure out how he was going to explain this to his parents while another was mumbling about how this looks for his career.
“Idiots,” Smoke says, shaking his head.
We walk around to the back of the van and open the door.
“Please, let us go. I didn’t do anything wrong,” one of the businessmen pleads.
“You were at an illegal poker game in my territory. That alone is wrong,” Smoke tells him.
“File out,” Gunner rasps.
“This one comes with me,” I say as I grab onto Blaine.
Smoke raises his eyebrows. “Then let’s start with him.”
The entire time we walk him to the building, he tries to put up a fight, to break out of my hold, but he fails. Once inside, I push him into the chair, and Smoke ties his legs to it.
“There. Now start talking. Why did you start this, and what made you think you could get away with doing an operation like this in my territory?” Smoke demands.
Blaine’s eyes bug out. “Start this? I didn’t start anything. I’m only doing this to help pay down my student loans faster.”
As he spills his guts, I can’t help but chuckle.
No wonder Delaney had such a problem getting off. This dude’s a fucking little bitch and has no sense of the word loyalty. It’s a good thing she has me now. I’ll do whatever she wants whenever she asks, and she will never have to worry about me throwing her under the bus, and that’s a goddamn fact.
CHAPTER NINE
Delaney
My hands shake as I shut off my car in the police station parking lot.
I’m doing this. I have to do this.
As soon as I got out of my meeting with Principal Marshall, I scurried back to my classroom, where I called Erica. Without hesitation, she said she would meet me at the police station as soon as school got out to make sure I followed through with making a report.
I had to convince her to wait until the following day. I needed to wrap my head around the fact that this is happening.
A knock on my window makes me jump. Turning, I place my hand over my heart when I see Erica frowning down at me.
She backs up, and I get out of the car.
