“No!” Flynn shoved his hands into his pockets. “I mean, no. The village is so expensive during the tourist season and we have the room. I’ll show you the way to your room, Daisy. It’s got great ceiling viewing.”
She smiled at him and I frowned at him for it. He was staring at her like she was his favorite cut of steak.
When I looked back to see if Max was noticing, I saw that his hands were fisted at his side and he was doing his deep breathing shit. Were they as affected by her as I was? If so, had I just invited a world of drama into our lives for the summer?
Something heavy settled on my feet and I looked down to see the dog had laid down on them. He was on his back, staring up at me with an expression that felt more human than it should’ve.
I moved away from him and frowned deeper. “Go be with your human.”
He got up, strolled towards the kitchen with a flick of his ears over his shoulders, and I watched in stupefied awe as he jumped up on the table and grabbed the basket of fresh bread. Then, would’ve sworn he rolled his eyes at me before walking past me, towards Daisy’s trail.
“What the fuck?”

***Daisy***
My body was used to waking up at four-thirty in the morning to go to the bakery. It didn’t care that I was a thousand miles from home and aching from crying and drinking. At four-thirty exactly my eyes opened to a strange ceiling and my heart jump started before I remembered where I was. And why I was… I let out a quiet groan and sat up, expecting to be hit with the urge to vomit, but thankfully it never happened.
“At least life is choosing to be kind, even if it’s in the smallest way.” I stood up and stretched. “You could’ve made my boyfriend cheat with someone other than my sister, life, but noooo, you wanted to grace me with the ability to drink without getting a hangover instead.”
“Who are you talking to, Aunt Daisy?”
I just about flew out of my skin at Poppy’s tiny, sleepy voice. I looked down and saw that she, Charlie, and Hazel had commandeered my floor so they could cuddle with Hank.
Lowering my voice, I grabbed my toiletry bag and tiptoed around them. “No one, Pop. Go back to sleep, sweetheart.”
I heard Hank fart and Poppy’s sweet giggle in response to it before pulling the door mostly closed. If she stayed awake she was going to wake the house with her laughter because Hank was a sleep farter. A big one. I’d counted one night and then called the vet to ask if the crazy high number meant anything bad.
I leaned against the wall beside the door for a moment, giving my brain time to catch up. I’d agreed to nanny the kids for the summer. I let that sink in as I walked towards the bathroom down the hallway. My room had an en suite but I didn’t want to bother the kids. The kids I agreed to nanny. That was another thing I was going to have to admit to my therapist. Dr. Tanner wasn’t going to be happy with me when I admitted that I’d jumped into being helpful with both feet without a second thought.
I wasn’t a nanny. I was a baker who’d gotten lucky in business. Nothing I’d done qualified me as a nanny. Plus, wasn’t it weird to spend the summer at my ex’s family home? I was thinking that maybe I needed to help the Calloway brothers find a new nanny and leave when I reached the bathroom door and pushed it open. I stepped inside without paying attention. Later, I’d blame it on Rat’s weed cookie.
My eyes slowly moved to the glass shower and then I froze. I wasn’t alone. As I quickly scanned the man in the shower, I thought that there were two other beings in the room besides me. Flynn. And Flynn’s aggressively large erection.
I only looked for a few seconds before I made some sort of noise that gave away my presence but those few seconds would forever be burned into my memory.
Flynn had one strong arm braced on the shower wall and his other hand was stroking his cock with fast, hard strokes. His tan body was hard all over and wet, so wet. If not for the white patch of his ass and upper thighs I would’ve thought he was some sort of sun God. There was just so much bronzed muscle on display. Tyler did not look like that.
I almost felt guilty for that thought until I remembered that Tyler had left me for my sister. If I wanted to think that Flynn was built like a God compared to his little brother, I could. Even if I shouldn’t.
Flynn’s eyes, eyes that I’d silently called Paul Newman eyes, widened when he saw me and he quickly tried to cover his erection with his hands. “Oh, shit! Daisy! What are you doing in here?”
I jerked violently and spun around. “Oh, my God. I’m so sorry, Flynn! The kids are in my room and I didn’t want to wake them so I came…. I didn’t know you were… Oh, God. I didn’t see anything.”
The slight break of my voice was humiliating. I rolled my eyes at myself and mouthed that I was an idiot. More humiliating than the voice break was realizing I was facing a mirror and that Flynn was watching my reflection.
If he was embarrassed of getting caught, he didn’t show it. He cut off the water and grabbed the towel hanging nearby. My eyes tracked the movements as he wrapped it tightly around his waist and stepped out of the shower. The way the towel tented made it so he might as well have not put one on.
“Are you going to wait for me to finish?” His smirk said he was teasing me but the question made even more blood flood my cheeks.
I didn’t get a chance to leave before his foot hit a patch of water and his legs went out from under him. I was in the mirror one moment and the next I was gone because Flynn grabbed my hips in an effort to save himself and just dragged me down with him. I grabbed him in my panic and only realized what I’d grabbed once we were on the ground, silent, both breathing hard.
Flynn was under my back, awkwardly sprawled against the shower wall, and I was half on top of him, my hand tight around his dick. Hot skin and steel wrapped in velvet throbbed against my palm. I realized and gasped as I jerked my hand away, mouth already moving with an explanation.
“I’m sorry! I just grabbed something as I fell and… Oh, God, that was an accident, Flynn. I’m really, really sorry.” And then the awkward part of my brain popped its head out to add its two cents. “To be fair, though, that thing is the size of a safety bar. I could’ve grabbed it if I fell out in the hallway.”
Flynn let out a pained laugh and tightened his grip on my hips for a beat before he effortlessly lifted me to my feet. He stood up a little slower and kept a hand pressed over his dick. “I’m going to nurse my ego in my room. Bathroom’s yours, Dais.”
