Nah.
Didn’t she know?
“Tonight, it’s lucky me,” he said.
It was the constant buzzing behind August’s head that had her sleepy eyes blinking open to an unfamiliar room. Her hand stretched across the empty space next to her in the comfortable bed, meeting air where a warm body should be. She couldn’t be mad at Beni’s lack of presence, not when she could smell something delicious cooking outside of the bedroom, daring her to make her way out of bed to find what it was.
Oh, and the memories from the night before.
Yeah.
She definitely couldn’t forget those.
A pleased, small smile pulled at her lips while she rolled to her back, and stretched in the bed. With white stucco staring back at her, she tried to figure out what that buzzing which woke her up had been, but the room was silent.
That was okay, too.
It smelled like him.
And now, just a touch of her on the bedsheets.
Hookups didn’t usually last this long for her, and more often than not, she preferred to have it happen at her place. Then, she knew all the places where she had something hidden to protect herself, if need be, and she decided when someone left.
Yet, this hadn’t bothered her at all.
She was feeling good.
So fine.
That grin curved her lips as she flipped over in the bed to find her bag that Beni brought into the room, and set on the bedside table before they fell asleep the night before. The tenderness between her thighs—the ache—reminded her of what it felt like to have a hard fucking, and she would be lying if she said she wasn’t ready for round two.
And she wasn’t a liar.
A buzz vibrated her purse, and all at once, August knew exactly what had woken her up. Shit. She reached for the device in the bag, fumbling through the disorganization that was her life shoved into her purse, until she found the phone she had set to vibrate only. Without bothering to check the caller ID, she didn’t need to anyway, she answered the call with a tired, “August here.”
“Oh, my God. Do you not know how to pick up your phone?”
She couldn’t help but laugh at Camilla’s exasperation. “How many times have you called?”
“Three.”
“That’s three times too many for …” August pulled the phone away to squint at the screen until the time came into focus. “Seven in the damn morning, Cam, come on.”
“Well …”
“What?”
“That was always our thing, you know? It’s been a while since one of us left with someone from a club and all, but I still figured I should call, make sure you were good, and whatnot.”
August hummed under her breath. “I am very good this morning.”
A knowing giggle answered her back.
“And safe,” August added, knowing that’s what her friend wanted to hear the most. “All is good, no worries, girl.”
“Yeah?”
“Mmhmm.”
