Carol read through the letter once. Then again, more slowly.

Then she made a small sound. "Tsk."

Two small glowing forms materialized beside her.

Lumi appeared in a shimmer of golden light, her tiny face anxious. "What is it? What's wrong?"

Missy manifested in a flash of red-purple energy, immediately leaning over to read the letter. "Ooh, drama. What happened?"

"Lucinda was arrested," Carol said simply, setting the letter on the side table.

"Your cousin?" Lumi asked. "What for?"

"Attempting to sabotage Rosalie," Carol said. "Poison, black magic, kidnapping plots, smearing her reputation. Multiple charges. They found evidence. She confessed under truth spell."

Missy whistled. "Wow. She really went all in, didn't she?"

"She was warned," Lumi said softly.

"She was," Carol agreed.

"This is..." Lumi paused, her golden glow flickering thoughtfully. "This is the fate that was supposed to happen to the original Caroline."

Carol blinked, then sat up slightly—as much as her pregnant belly allowed. "What?"

"The original Caroline," Missy said, catching on. "In the game. She was supposed to interfere with Rosalie, right? That was part of her villain role. And then she'd be arrested, disgraced, possibly executed."
