“Yeah. I keep thinking that I’ve made the adjustment, but there’s this part of me that always keeps hoping it’ll go away. And there’s this other part of me that almost wishes it was something… well, maybe not worse. But something that people could see. You know, so I don’t look like an asshole for taking the disabled seat on the bus.”

Remi looked into Isaac’s eyes. “I know it’s kind of your job, but I have to say it’s been a big relief not to have to explain all of that to you. So honestly, if you’re willing to carry in the suitcases, I would appreciate it. I don’t want to be in pain all week while you’re here.”

In Isaac’s mind, all of Remi’s maturity about this only made him more attractive. That combination of thoughtfulness and acceptance about his own limitations showed his wisdom, and it was exactly the type of thing that Isaac admired in a Daddy and partner. But of course, all of that was immaterial when this would all end in a few days.

Isaac leaned in for a kiss. “I don’t want that either. If you’re doing any bending or stretching, I either want you doing your exercises… or naked.” He said it with a lascivious wink, then darted away with the two suitcases.

Remi’s laughter rang after him.

Isaac ended up making two trips for all of their things, but then he was upstairs, taking everything in.

Remi hadn’t even suggested that he put his stuff in the spare bedroom that he saw in passing. The office that he passed in the hallway, with a mess of papers scattered over the desk, also sported a twin bed. No, it was clear that he’d continue staying with Daddy, sleeping in his arms.

Remi’s bedroom was just as relaxing and cozy as Isaac had imagined it would be. The dark, heavy wood of the furniture was offset by the colorful bedspread and creamy walls. It was very much a grown-up room, though. And Isaac couldn’t stop thinking about the playroom.

All the doors had stood open in the hall, giving Isaac a glimpse of a very dated bathroom with orangey-pink tile as well as the office and guest room. Remi had even opened the final door to the linen closet to pull out a towel for him. So, where was it?

Remi came up behind him, looping arms around his waist. “You look like you’re thinking about something very hard.” His scruff prickled pleasantly against Isaac’s neck. “If you’re regretting this, I can still drive you to Tommy’s place.”

Isaac shook his head. “No, it’s not that.”

“Will you tell me? Please?” It seemed that Isaac wasn’t the only one who’d been thrown off by the change of locale.

“It just feels like this is more real.”

“Ah.” Remi’s breath caressed his ear. “And is that bad?”

“It is when I live on the other side of the country. You know, I’d prepared myself to say goodbye to you this morning. And now it’s just… I can’t even describe it. I’m sorry.”

“It feels uncertain,” Remi suggested. “Don’t think I haven’t been arguing with myself all weekend. Half of me wants to kidnap you and never let you go. I’ve been looking for my boy for a long time, and I’d almost given up. But baby, if I haven’t already made this clear, you’re everything I’ve always been looking for.”

Warmth spread through Isaac’s chest. No, that giddy feeling spread right to his fingertips. It seemed impossible, but he was what Remi had been looking for. Him, Isaac Blum, with his finally-there beard and all of the body parts that he wasn’t sure he’d ever make peace with, he was the one that Remi had been looking for. Out of all the cis guys in the world, he was the one that Daddy wanted.

Remi continued as he nuzzled against his ear. “I know it’s too soon for any promises, but if you lived nearby, I’d want to give this a real try. Hell, I’d ask you to be mine right now. Be my boy all the time and see if I can fit you as well as you fit me.”

Isaac let out a little whimper, the idea of that dream as erotic as the press of Remi’s firm bulk against his back. He could see it all so easily.

“But…” Isaac prompted, because it needed to be said.

“But both of us agreed that we didn’t want a long-distance relationship. So the other half of my brain keeps reminding me not to get too close. Not to get too used to having you here in my arms. Not to get too attached.”

Isaac turned so he could bury his face in Remi’s neck. “That’s exactly it. Thank you.”

“Will you give us four more days, baby boy? Let me take all of your worries away and send you back on that airplane so relaxed that you’re ready for the best semester ever?”

Isaac nuzzled in closer. Daddy always knew what to say. Four more days was a clear boundary. And with the way Remi set it up, Isaac knew that he actually would be ready for what came next. That sense of contentment and care would travel with him like the dinosaur keychain and tree-shaped stone that he probably wouldn’t take out of his pocket ever again. “Yes, Daddy. Please do that.” He looked up to meet Daddy’s eyes, and then his lips. “I want to be your baby boy,” he murmured against him.

Daddy kissed him like a starving man, like he couldn’t get enough. “Kissy Izzy,” Daddy growled, voice warm as he leaned back in to suck more and more kisses from Isaac’s mouth.

Isaac giggled around the kisses, feeling light and silly. He wasn’t in little space yet, but when Daddy made up those almost-rhymes just for him, it was sending him there fast.

“Let’s get started right now, baby boy. Can I show you the playroom?”

Isaac nodded, their lips still almost touching. He’d been crazy to ever deny that he wanted to see it.

Daddy never quite stopped kissing him as he led them across the bedroom in a cuddly tangle of arms and legs. They moved so slowly that Izzy never lost his balance, and he didn’t try to even look where they were going.

He did notice, though, when they entered a lush, modern bathroom that Daddy had clearly remodeled. The tiles were white with rows of vivid blue interspersed, the oversized tub hosting jets on the sides. Izzy didn’t catch any more as Daddy turned the handle on a door on the other side.
