Isaac could only be honest. “It’s been... everything that I’m looking for. So… thank you.” There didn’t seem to be enough words for how good it felt being with Remi. How everything felt so natural.
“You’re very welcome, sweet boy. And while we’re talking about dating, I was wondering… you’re going to be in town for the rest of the week, right?”
Isaac’s heart raced. “Until Friday.”
“Do you think I could see you again? After this weekend?”
Isaac squeezed his eyes shut, assailed by too many questions and emotions at once. He knew Remi was attracted to him, but this was a whole different level than a kinky weekend getaway. When he opened his eyes, he still had no idea how to answer.
“I know you have your plan,” Daddy said gently. “But perhaps I could hang out with you and Tommy for a playdate? Or just have dinner together? I mean… it could be anything you wanted.”
It sounded heavenly. Isaac already wanted all of it. But as Daddy said, it wasn’t Isaac’s plan. “Can I think about it?” Ugh. That seemed to be what he said about everything.
Remi pulled up Isaac’s hand and pressed a kiss to his knuckles. “You can always think about anything. And have as much time as you need or change your mind. Can I… can I ask if you ever thought about a long-distance relationship?” Remi looked almost casual, but for the faint lines of strain around his eyes. Isaac was already getting good at reading him.
Isaac truly hadn’t considered the possibility until last night, but he’d considered it at least a dozen times since then. The answer was still the same though. “I actually don’t think I could. I mean, I thought about it. But… I hear some people say that they really live in their heads. And I don’t. I live in my body. For me, a relationship is very physical even if it’s just… holding hands.” He tugged their linked fingers upward. “And I think… I think if I tried anything long distance I’d be miserable. I just… I know myself well enough to know that a video chat or something would just seem unfulfilling in comparison to the real thing.”
“There’s also…” Isaac started, then shook his head. “Never mind. There are some things I’d be looking for in a long-term partner, but I don’t think I want to share them right now. It’s not relevant.” Right? Who cared about all of his fantasies when this was just a fling.
Remi looked him over, like he was trying to read the story of his soul. But ultimately he let it go. “You never have to tell me anything you don’t want to. I wouldn’t push.” He paused, letting that settle. “As for a long-distance relationship, I guess it’s about the same for me.” His usually bright expression dulled. “My sister’s husband travels a lot for work, and she gets frustrated sometimes because it’s more work taking care of the kids. But I don’t think I’d be able to handle something like that at all. The part of me that wants to control and care for a partner would go insane. It just seems like… all of the anxiety with none of the reward.”
Isaac heard himself sigh, but he didn’t know if it was in relief or disappointment. At least they were on the same page. “So this is just the weekend, then. That’s it.”
“Looks like. And maybe a bit more of the week if you’re still interested. I was thinking...” Daddy shook his head, not completing the sentence.
“What?”
“I was just thinking that if you wanted another getaway weekend for, I don’t know, Thanksgiving? Christmas break? I wouldn’t be adverse to meeting up again, maybe giving you a break from your stressful schedule.” He looked tentative and hopeful.
“Winter break,” Isaac corrected, mind still reeling. That sounded perfect. Amazing. “Not Christmas.”
“Oh, right. God, that was insensitive of me. I’m sorry. Winter break, then? Or… God, this is so weird, this whole singles destination weekend thing. I don’t even know what I’m asking. I’ve barely known you for twenty-four hours.”
Isaac had to agree. “Yeah, this whole thing is weird. Can we just focus on this weekend? I think that’s all I can commit to right now.” Being a grown-up double, triple sucked.
“Yeah.” Remi squeezed his fingers. “Thank you for being the responsible, reasonable one in all of this. I think I tend to go overboard when I find someone I like. And… I guess I really like you.”
Isaac felt a warm blush splash across his cheeks. It was so middle school, finding out that Remi “really liked” him. But at the same time, it felt enormous. A day ago Isaac hadn’t been sure that any man would ever be attracted to him, and today a sweet, sexy Daddy was saying that Isaac was someone worth going overboard for.
If Isaac wasn’t careful, he was going to end up besotted. Knowing that Remi possibly already was only doubled that feeling. So he focused on the rest of what Remi said instead. “Well, I don’t know about being responsible. There’s a reason I’m a little.”
Remi reached across the table and ruffled his hair. “The most adorable little. But you’re also a very responsible man, and that’s something I admire, too. I seem to recall you forcing me through my daily exercises,” Remi teased.
Isaac jumped on the chance to change the conversation. “They’re good for you. Don’t you feel better now?”
“Yes. But maybe because you’re an excellent PT.”
Isaac was just going to die under all of this praise. Not because there was so much of it, but because he could tell that Remi was really seeing him, and meant every word.
“Thanks, um, are you sure it wasn’t too much? I mean, not physically. But I didn’t cross any lines?”
“Nope. I said it was fine. You can be my personal drill sergeant tomorrow, too. But thank you for checking in about that, too.”
Isaac shrugged. “It goes both ways. Were we going to talk about anything else?”
Remi’s eyes sparked. “Well… I seem to have discovered a very naughty boy in my bed this afternoon. I don’t think you were expecting that any more than I was, but I hope that means you’re feeling more comfortable with me.”
“I might have maybe planned a little bit of it, or at least Tommy suggested it.” He couldn’t help but giggle. “But I still didn’t know how comfortable I’d feel, and the rest just happened.”
