“Oh, yeah?” Daddy sounded enthusiastic. “That’s so good to hear. I don’t know Brick well, but we chat sometimes. He hosts parties at his house. And I like how he is with people. Very calm. He has a solid reputation as a caring Daddy, so you can tell Tommy that.”

Remi looked around the room and grabbed his wallet and key card. He was wearing a pair of black cargo shorts and a forest green t-shirt. It wasn’t the sexiest outfit, but it was just right for Daddy spending a day relaxing with his boy. And that made it sexy all on its own.

Without missing a beat, he hooked the diaper bag over his shoulder, sending little chills down Isaac’s spine. That meant they were going to play again. Maybe even on the sunny lawn or splashing in the creek like Daddy had promised.

“Alright, sweet boy, let’s find breakfast.”

They wandered down to the dining room, hand in hand. Isaac had been awake for so long that he was absolutely starving. The lodge offered hot muffins and rolls that Sebastian told him he made himself when he took their order.

There wasn’t a ton of choice—just how they wanted their eggs cooked—but it had a homey feel. There were nine other people all scattered around the two communal tables. Isaac started polling them about what they were planning on doing that day, and it looked like there was about an even split between kayaking and rock climbing.

Daddy didn’t say much, but he rested his hand on Isaac’s knee and seemed to enjoy listening. He was friendly enough when people talked with him, but mostly he seemed to be enjoying his coffee and watching Isaac.

Isaac could definitely live with that.

When they were done with their meal, Daddy linked their hands together. “What did you sign up for today, sweet boy? You asked everyone else, but you didn’t say.”

Isaac shrugged. “I just figured we’d stay here. Maybe wade in the river?”

Remi narrowed his eyes. “Did you sign up for one of them yesterday?”

Isaac didn’t see how it was relevant. “Yeah. But I already cancelled.”

“Why?”

Now Isaac was confused. “Because you have a spinal injury? Kayaking is nothing but twisting and mountain climbing could jerk your spine unexpectedly. I figured we’d stay here.”

Daddy raised one eyebrow. “Were you going to check in with me about that?”

Isaac looked down. Now he felt terrible. It was just disrespectful toward Daddy as a person, but also probably not what a Daddy wanted in his boy. “Sorry, Daddy. I just thought it would make you happy. Oh, God, and I scheduled breakfast, too. I just didn’t think of that as a Daddy thing to do.”

Daddy tilted Isaac’s head up. “I’m not angry with you, baby. In fact, that’s very sweet of you. I enjoy controlling a lot of things in my boy’s life, but only when it supports him being his best self. I don’t get uptight about things like that. But maybe ask first next time? I know you enjoy things like that, and I might have had some other ideas.”

“Oh.”

Daddy rubbed his thumb over Isaac’s lip, making him think how good it would be to finally kiss. Once he was done screwing things up.

“Baby boy, you’re doing a very good job and we’re still trying to figure each other out. I’m not worried about you taking initiative. I just want to give you a place to relax and feel safe, and the rest of the time I’d just like to get to know you better. I’ll probably mess some things up because I’m still trying to figure out what you need and what kind of boy you are, too.”

“Ummm… the kind of boy who wakes up early and arranges our schedules?”

“Clearly.” Daddy chuckled. “But now that we’re having this conversation, do you want to show off your mountain climbing skills? Or do you want to paddle for our romantic kayak trip?”

“Wait, really? You would just want to watch me? Or let me paddle?” That hadn’t even occurred to him. Probably because of some ridiculous subconscious expectations about roles for Daddies and boys. Or some not-so-subconscious past experiences.

“Sure. I’d enjoy both of those very much.”

“Then kayaking, definitely.” Daddy said it would be romantic.

Daddy raised the back of Isaac’s hand to his lips. Isaac’s skin tingled and he suddenly realized that was their first kiss. Well, sort of their first kiss.

God, he’d been rubbing up against Daddy’s boner this morning and they hadn’t even kissed yet. That was weird. Except that… Daddy had said that Isaac would have to be in charge of initiating anything. So…. maybe some kissing later?

Maybe some kissing now?

“Kayaking sounds great,” Daddy told him, interrupting his fantasies. “I’m looking forward to it. Want me to go register?”

“Jamie said the kayaking van is full though, so we’d have to drive. Or, I mean, we’d have to take your car. If you have one here.”
