“Do you think he’d really be OK with that?”
It was almost like he could hear Tommy roll his eyes. “He literally said he would be OK with that.”
“Right. Yeah. He did.” Isaac knew it, but it still helped to have a reminder.
It was just mystifying that Remi was actually interested in him. Even if he was the only one who shared his kinks. It felt like there had to be some kind of catch.
Tommy spoke up again. “Remind me what he said about you?”
Isaac rolled over onto his belly and shoved the phone across the bed. Ugh. Stupid best friend. He tried to sound annoyed, but it was hard when he was remembering the warm smile on Remi’s face. “He said I was smart and sexy.”
“And adorable ev-ry-where…” Tommy sing-songed.
Isaac hid his face in the pillow, then lifted it back up so he could talk. “You just wanted to say that.”
“Yeah,” Tommy giggled.
“So you really think I should do this?” Isaac asked for the thirty-seven millionth time.
“Yes. One hundred percent. He sounds perfect for you. And I know that you like him.”
Isaac flipped back over. “So that’s it? I should just… do this for the weekend?”
“Yep. Wear the dino jammies I got for you. He’ll love them. And send me pictures. Hang on, isn’t this thing starting soon? You’re supposed to meet your Daddy before it starts.”
Isaac picked up the phone again to check. “Shit. Yeah. I need to get ready. And he’s not my Daddy yet. What should I wear?”
Tommy gave a long-suffering sigh. “Do you listen to anything I say? Dino jammies. Every time you get nervous, pretend I’m giving you a hug. With cute little dino claws.”
“Yeah, OK.” It was probably a good thing Isaac didn’t have any more time to freak out. And it was a very good thing Tommy had chosen his clothes for him. He would have spent forever trying to decide.
“Bring Roarasaurus, too. He’ll protect you.”
“From what?”
“Bad guys and negative self-talk. Now go.”
Isaac scrambled off the bed. “OK. I’ll… see how it goes. But Tommy… Thank you. You’re the best.”
“I know.” Tommy giggled. “And my Daddy thinks so, too.”
“God, I’m so jealous.”
“Nope! Your Daddy Remi is going to think you’re the best. Hanging up now! Love you!”
“Love you, too. Byeeeeee!”
“Bye!”
Tommy’s confidence lasted Isaac all the way through getting dressed, but by the time he reached the hallway, it had mostly deserted him.
He crept down the stairs, trying to spot Remi before he was seen himself. He’d second-guessed this whole thing a million times.
After two hours on the phone with Tommy going over every single detail of his forty-minute hike, he was almost certain that spending the weekend with Remi was the right thing to do.
Probably.
Maybe.
