“I’m going to tell your Daddy to give you extra spankings for that.”
“Please!”
There was a pause. “So are you happy?”
“I can’t even tell you how much. It’s like… OK, this is going to sound stupid, but he doesn’t get annoyed with me. I know that’s a low bar, but he, like, when I do something silly or ridiculous, I think it actually makes him happy. I mean, maybe he’ll change his mind later, but…”
“Nope,” Christy cut in. “Don’t go down that path. He knows you already. He smiles every time he sees you. Especially when you’re doing something dumb.”
“Hey! I didn’t say dumb.”
“If it helps, you make me smile, too.”
“Awww.”
“Just be yourself. Remember the rule?”
“Let Daddy set the limits.”
“Yep. And how’s that going so far?”
“Oh, God. It’s heavenly. He gets to order food for me and I have to ask for permission for treats. Except today, but that was a special circumstance because it’s Chinese food for Christmas. But otherwise he says he’s going to spoil me.”
“Good for you. That’s exactly what you need.”
“You’re never going to give Nikhil anything, are you?”
“I might deign to give him my attention if he’s very lucky.”
He didn’t quite understand how Christy could be so warm when they were all working together, but so harshly cold with Nikhil sometimes. Yet the sexual tension between them practically crackled in the air. Nikhil was just begging to be ground under her sneakers.
Not his kink, but he knew a good match when he saw one.
And he was starting to wonder if Christy’s relationship with Nikhil might look different from what she’d had in the past. The way she talked about him was just different. When she wasn’t joking, she was usually sweet and concerned, and he’d never heard her talk about any other sub that way.
“Oh, hang on.” Christy said something he couldn’t make out and then returned. “Gotta go. About to start Christmas dinner.”
“It’s barely even lunch time.”
“Yes, but it’s Christmas dinner.”
“Got it. Can you have it for breakfast?”
“No. That’s Christmas breakfast. It’s, like, danishes from a package and little personal boxes of cereal for the kids because no one wants to cook two meals on the same day. Oh, and oranges for some reason. It’s a time-honored tradition.”
“Enjoy your dinner!”
“Enjoy your Chinese food!”
“Love you. Bye!”
“Bye!”
He put his phone back in his pocket, still smiling. He put on some danceable music and wandered around his apartment picking up a few mislaid objects and taking the Chinese food out of the bag.
When the doorbell buzzed, he raced to answer it.
“Daddy!” He tackled Saul with a hug.
