Menace wore this lost look on his face, and the blood on his hands didn’t matter. This was a nigga who had a sanitizing mist when you entered his home. Here he was pulling a woman’s skin back to show her lover the way he slit her throat, while blood coated his fingers.

The judge held his mouth like he was going to be sick, as he discreetly tried to ease away from the bed and get to the top drawer of his nightstand.

I clicked on the lights that were next to where I was sitting. “Nah, you wouldn’t be grabbing something to hurt my brother-in-law, right?”

It was when the room was fully illuminated that he saw Core sitting in the chair across from mine. “Probably best we close the shades, nah mean,” Corleon chuckled, as he used the home software to close the automatic shades.

“Co…Corleon, what the hell is going on? We… we’re good,” he tried to talk a good game, all while knowing this was going to be the last conversation he would ever hold.

“We were good, Castello.” Corleon messed with his beard while he watched Menace braid this dead lady’s hair.

Castello jumped up from the bed, nearly toppling over. “Whatever you need, you know I have you. Let me get some money and square this away.”

He walked into the closet and then immediately slowly walked back out of it.

“How disgusting of you to throw money at us. You think we’re broke niggas that need the massa’s money?” Kora questioned, as she slowly walked out the closet.

Even though Castello towered over Kora, her presence alone had him shook.

“Jud…Judge Case,” he stammered, shocked to see her standing in his bedroom.

“Very nice to see you, Justice Castello. Small world… didn’t realize when I was invited to your luncheon that you were in my brother’s back pocket. I tend to stay out of that side of business.” She picked in her nails. “Not surprised you are into buying pussy when your soon to be ex-wife looks like a garlic knot.”

I couldn’t tell if Castello agreed with her or was offended. If somebody insulted Zoya, I’d be ready to put a nigga’s head through the window. Shit, I was making juice in her pantry with that orange when Sigel called himself coming out the mouth about her weight.

“We treated you like family,” Menace’s low voice carried through the room.

He was now sitting Indian style in the middle of the bed. He was staring down at his hands but managed to look up the same time that Castello looked at him, meeting his gaze.

He smirked.

We all knew that by the time we left Castello’s house, he would be dead. You didn’t get to play both sides and live to talk about it.

Especially not fucking with the Caselli family.

“Castello, we treated you like gold. Flew you private to every gala we held. Made sure you never had to ask twice about needing someone sent to you. Dorinda was one of our girls and you fell in love with her. Which was against the rules, but we’re nice people… very understanding.” Core leaned forward. “We knew her pussy wasn’t going to stop you from sampling more.”

“The divorce is wiping me clean, and I cannot afford to spend like I was before. She has so many forensic accountants in my accounts that I cannot slip up or explain the large amounts of money.”

“Damn.”

“What happened?” I asked Corleon.

“I’m sorry that he just called you a stupid nigga boy who can’t count, Corleon,” Kora sincerely apologized like those words had left Castello’s mouth.

He sighed. “The fact that you thought some weak ass forensic accountant could figure out the system I set in place for Case House clients is insulting.”

“He worked hard on that system, too,” Menace added.

“Appreciate that, Mens… you know I get frustrated because ass fucks underestimate me and the work I put in!” he roared and tossed the lamp that was on the table at Castello, busting him in the face.

Castello let out a loud yelp, as the bronze lamp hit him in his face, and caused blood to sprout from his face like a damn juice box.

I could tell from the sound the lamp made when it hit him that it hurt. The lamp fell to the floor, pieces flying from it, as Castello’s hands rushed to his face, filled with his own blood.

“Pl… please, I know you worked hard. Case House is family. I send you Christmas cards for crying out loud,” Castello still tried to stick with that loyalty over everything story.

Kora leaned in the doorway with her arms folded, as she looked at Castello. “Bench trial. You weren’t a Justice back then, Calloway.”
