“Okay.”

“The skirt moves beautifully.”

“That sounds promising.”

“The construction is gorgeous.”

“Then why don’t you know?”

The answer sat in my throat for several seconds before I let it out.

“Because after four hours of people telling me what worked, I stopped knowing what I thought.”

Silence came through the phone.

I immediately wished I could pull the sentence back.

Ryan didn’t rush to fix it.

“That sounds exhausting.”

“It was just shopping.”

“I didn’t say shopping was exhausting.”

My throat tightened.

He understood too much sometimes.

“You want me to come over?”

The yes rose immediately.

I swallowed it. “You don’t have to.”

“That wasn’t my question either.”

I smiled. “You’re becoming very annoying about questions.”

“Brown should pay me.”

“She already has a job.”

“I could replace her.”

“You would be fired before lunch.”

“Probably.”

I looked toward the mirror again without turning my body toward it.

“I want you to come over.”

“See how easy that was?”

“Don’t ruin it.”

“I’m getting food.”
